  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Force's accident was really a bummer. But this is a very dangerous sport. One of Force's drivers and good friend of mine, Eric Medlin, was killed earlier this year. And his daughter, Ashley, was in a serious crash in Seattle. There is something very seductive about this sport that keeps us all coming back, even though it is an ecological nightmare (although on a small scale).

My rig is changing. I want light (I'm old and tired and like to run solo). I have added the RED LCD (now that we have a couple) and the RED 19mm rod setup with an Arri mattebox and lite follow-focus. It is just at my limit of weight with the battery onboard. I'm re-thinking how I can shave off a couple of pounds... not me, the camera. I'm also considering working out a bit, although the thought pains me. We have a few things in the works that might help, but in the end the camera is so satisfying that I'll do whatever necessary to keep shooting. I love it. I am so satisfied that I can't believe we made it this far.

The embedded QT is working fine here (Firefox 2.0.0.7 on WinXP).

Coal is not super-clean but overall, central power plants pollute quite a bit less than gas engines on a per-kilowatt basis. Of course few people want to watch an electric drag race, because it's pretty quiet... no bone-rattling soundtrack.

I love light... I've been thinking about mounting the battery to the sticks, and then a battery clip for my belt for hand held.

okey okey, it is not an dragster but it is 370 km/h fast, only with batterie-power

now, there are also new batteries(lithium-titanat battery) on market, called "nanoSafe™ Battery" . you can charge 90% in 10 minutes.

Jim, what further saddens me about Eric's death was the fact that here is a guy who learned so much of his craft from his father, got a job w/ Team Force and worked his up to the drivers seat from the mechanics side. To me it is like a grip who worked his or her way up the chain for years and finally got that chance to helm (Direct or Produce) a project born of their own creativity w/ financial support. From what I have observed through the media, his skills/insight as a driver, the solid foundation of Team Force... there is no telling what kind of impact/contributions that he would have made for the evolution Drag Racing. I may be wrong but it seems he was just hitting his stride... It is just wrong on all counts.

This is great information... I can relate. I need light for most things as well. Actually it is one of my top concerns. I never thought I would ever be a cameraman/producer again after my accident in 2001, I was told by a spine specialist to get over it and move on that I would never get any better... find something else to do for a living, here is a lifetime supply of opiates and some forearm crutches... and so did twentysomething other so called specialists. I would say that after quite a journey that is no longer the case. Free weight traing will soon be in my future again...:construction: :)

I am looking forward w/ great anticipation what you and the team come up on this front. I also want you to know Jim this personal project of yours gave me the focus and the strength to push through many, many road blocks... I am light years ahead of where I was dec. 2005 on all fronts. Overall, I cannot believe that all these elements are coming together for all of us.

Probably a lot less than if all those spectators were driving somewhere at the same time. :)

They could get their energy from solar thermical plants, solar pv plants, wind plants and wave plants without a single piece of coal being burned. My $.02

Yes! Light and small are key, especially for productions doing handhelds in tight quarters. Jim, please consider being the first company to make cinema pancake lenses as well. Light body, light glass.

Also, what are your opinions of focusing with the EVF, because I may opt for not using a monitor in many run'n'gun situations? Thanks!
