I setup a simple test scene to shoot with 15 then 16... what a difference!

the scene
b16.jpg

shot 320asa / 3200 deg using red 18-50 zoom @ 18mm / T3
lighting 1k openface bounced off cieling. nothin fancy.

you can grab the fullsize tiffs here.... (right click save as)
Build 15 (48meg)
Build 16 (48meg)

fixed file link! oops

Build 15 file is only 18 Megs. Won't open. Can you reload?

what were your redalert settings? did you make a full debayer or you clicked only on the "save 4k Tiff" button ????
I don't know if this comes from the lens or from the new codec or false debayer, but when i look to the build 16 pic in 100%, the areas out of focus look not that nice as i know from build 15. If you look to the roll of solder on the right bottom for example... would be nice to see also a by redalert downscaled 2k tiff. the diference between redspace and redlog would be also very interesting.... Look to the areas where sharp lines out of focus.....

here a section of the 4k frame of B16: http://redcamservice.eu/pics/build16cut.tif

thx

Build 15 file is fixed! oops sorry, ftp must of crapped out.

as far as settings, I have used the latest redalert build, left everything
as default, Redspace for both Colorspace and output lut.
chroma denoise is off
debayer is high
olpf is high
nothing else changed

saved with the "Save 4k Tiff" button... I was under the impression that that
did a proper full debayer... ?

what noise... i don't see any noise...
actually incredible difference.

There is still some and there will always be some. Its just the nature of digital images...if you start pulling them apart channel by channel. Its a massive improvement over B15. It kind of reminds me of film in a way in the chemical noise I sometimes see.

THX Andy for Infos.... Please push the RENDER Button in RA and then switch to FULL Debayer and TIFF. BUT befor you have to select In and Out Point the same frame or one more, so you get then two TIFFS. Otherwise the hole clip will be rendered out. check the scale box and type the 4096X2048 in and take as resample filter LANCZOS. Would be interesting to see the difference to the posted B16 still....

I think the best result gives even shot in 4k and export 2k DPX, they look really great on the big screen....

thx a lot...

I'll give it a try soon, just processing some of the same scene now into quicktimes, I also have the scene just lit by candle light, at asa 800...

If you don't have some noise it doesn't look real, organic or like film. Film actually has quite a bit of noise sometimes. maybe we shouldn't call it noise, maybe we should call texture or organic particles, sparkle, fairy dust, anything more flattering than "noise" cause it is no longer a bad thing.

My eyes don't pick up noise. Noise free looks both more real and organic to me.

But you're right, it doesn't look like film.:sarcasm:
