  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Does this mean compression settings go down by 1/2? That would certainly be great...esp for high frame rates. Being able to shoot 5:1 at 96-120fps would be fantastic!
 
Did I just miss it, or is there no discount love this time for those wishing to keep their cameras?

I don't think that Magnesium Weapon will be EOL. I believe that it will probably be upgradable to the next sensor, but having the same size as this one (and probably the same pixel count, but better ones).

I asked. Brent confirmed there would be no "stage 2" upgrades for those who'd like to keep their current cams, but buy a new one at a discount.

6K HD 120fps @5:1 would be an industry game changer and personal deal maker. Get that done and I'm in. Otherwise not seeing the value of pitching my entire Dragon ecosystem which is paid for.
 
I'm a red supporter, but I feel they put themselves in a funny spot with all this. Hopefully some clarity will come sooner rather than later regarding specs and details, which is where the devil lies. This has the potential to really piss a lot of people off who were big supporters. Not speaking for myself, but friends. I especially feel for those scarlet guys who went dragon before NAB based on Jarred's comments, just seems kind of misleading, non intentional I'm sure, but he made it seem like getting into weapon would be a bit more affordable and offer a few more specs. Maybe there's more to know...

yes indeed.. Mg Weapon will be upgradable to both. It will cost more to go that way, but it will be an option.
 
I was told the weight difference between Mg Weapon and Carbon Weapon are very little so I can't see legitimate reasons to go CF.
Can we upgrade Mg Weapon to the 8K sensor and how much will that be?

I'm in for Weapon. Jarred, will Mg Weapon be upgradeable for whatever the next gen sensor will be? Am I wrong in thinking the 8K Vista is more of a specialty sensor (kind of like Monochrome) and not necessarily the next in line on the sensor>body>sensor path you've outlined?

Be careful, Jarred, people will remember that you said that magnesium will be upgradeable, but they will undoubtedly forget the second part and howl about the price when it comes around. LOL
 
In the past carbon casing was available at a high cost for a bit of weight saving. I don't see the relationship between carbon casing and extra processing. Seems to from what's been posted here today by owners, that being obliged to pay big money for the carbon casing is leaving s bad taste. Jarred, do you have any thoughts on that?

Carbon is not just casing this time. It has faster chips in it, just like the Epic has faster chips than the Scarlet.

That is why the Weapon Carbon can do 33x33x33 3D Luts vs the Weapon MG 17x17x17 3D luts, The Carbon can do 120fps PROres instead of Weapon MG 60fps PROres, and yes, Carbon can do 8k instead of the MG 6K.

Is there any increase on FPS with RAW?
 
Along these lines of question... if you shoot without ProRes, can you put that processing power into higher frames rates and/or lower compression?

This is cool. Any lower compressions with Weapon? Any other advantages vs Epic Dragon? I know you mentioned slightly better DR, how about lowlight? You'd mentioned about a half stop difference...was that about DR or lowlight (or both). Couldn't tell, but would love to know!
