  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing the RED DSMC2 Ultra Brite 7" monitor

Is that a single quarter inch mount hidden on the back as well? Guessing you will still need the DSCM 2 LCD/EVF adapter.

Finally just got mine after many months of waiting ;)

First quick impressions :
- It's heavier than the normal 7". The hinge version is 265g heavier than the normal hinge Lemo version I had until now, once I added the Lemo adaptor. (I don't use the pogo connectors, only cables)
- It's also bigger (not the screen by itself, but the framen it's like 1 cm more in width) and thicker (a few mm, but it's quite noticable).
- It's wayyyyy brighter than the original 7". Obviously, that's why I bought it and it seems to deliver ;)

It's a bit early for me to say how accurate it is colour wise.
I also need to find the right brightness setting for indoor use. On the original 7", I usually dialed back 3 points of brightness when shooting indoors. On the Ultra-brite, I think the right setting would be around -5 or even -6.

Anyway, can't wait to try it out outside, I might finally be able to see what I'm framing even in broad daylight :D

What is your impression so far, now that it's been a couple months?
And how is the power draw with the new ultra brite?
 
We have not user ours that much but I must say it is a joy to look at the screen. If you enable HDR luminance to it the image looks almost like looking at real sunlight.
So very good so far! Also I know touch sensitivity is supposed to be better than the old monitors.
It is of course a bit heavier and thicker but the image is great so far.

Still very happy with it. No regrets here.
A bit heavier and bulkier than the normal 7" but I was afraid it would be worse, it's not such a big difference after all.
Touch sensitivity seems a bit better indeed.
And really bright, as expected. Shooting outside in bright sunlight with the Movi is not a problem anymore.
The only thing is you need to remember to bring the brightness wayyyyy down when shooting inside or in low light (I use it at +1 most of the time), otherwise the picture on the monitor will appear way to bright and you'll tend to under-expose your image to compensate for that. ;oP
Not a problem once you're aware of it of course.
Power draw seems similar to the old one, haven't done any scientific comparison though.
