  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

yah.. you basically save about a grand.

interesting because jarred or brent specifically said, the night it came out that the savings was only about the cost of a nice dinner for 2, so most of us just hung onto the brain for that reason.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, just wanna make sure about the Base I/O Package:

It originally included the DSMC2 Base Expander , but just changed and now includes the Base I/O V-Lock expander, for the same price ?

no, it always had the i/o v-lock expander which didnt have a link and was not even announced or shown details of until about a week ago.
look back on the first pages of the thread, we were all freaking out trying to figure out what it was.

Thank you Jordan, my bad ;)

I'm not sure if it's been addressed or if anyone knows yet, but I'm curious to know if the Raven will fly on a Movi M5. I've seen pictures of it on a Ronin and what looks to be an M10 with an Alta. Anyway any info is much appreciated.

Never used a Movi M5 but Raven body is supposed to be 3.5 lbs. I imagine a bit more weight for the jetpack. Then the weight of your lens.

I would recommend going with a Ronin-M if you're looking for a lightweight gimbal. You'd be pushing it on the M5.

I recall Brent saying that you were saving a few hundred dollars going with the package vs buying individually. For me I decided to see what comes out for modules from now until Feb, as well with the price of the larger media being quite a bit cheaper per gig, I figured I was back in around the same price range as the package as you are going to need more then 128gb anyway. Oh and I have a 5' touch already that I plan to use, as it has swivel, which is important to me.

by the time you buy one of these http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc2-lemo-adaptor-collection

it looks like its better to keep your 5 inch redtouch on your other camera and just get the new monitor for your new shiny camera..

yes i agree its good to wait sometimes, but if i was gonna wait i would wait till spring right around NAB.. always good deals around then. For now the packages make the most sense to me.. unless of course you already have a weapon on order..

Thats for for a full kit of connectors. The one you need (A or B, can't remember) is $195

I've ran all the numbers and for what I need it is going to be the most cost effective. As well I run my monitor on the handle bar of the ronin, which I'm not sure you can do with the 4.7" without aditional adapter plus cable.

ok so $200 + cost of savings from package almost equals a new monitor is all im saying
I went with the Body only option personally because I want to see what other accessories will be offered. I like what I've seen from WC in terms of cost. They have a few options allowing you to also monitor from a 5" or older monitor/evf as well with connections through the top plate, and also through a lemo connection similar to RED's offering.

i hear ya. One thing is for sure tho, looking forward to less wires

hasn't been announce but Phil mentioned an adapter

thats what i was looking into, though its about $300 and adds another 1/2 inch to the setup.
im thinking it might be better, if you want to go AB gold mount, to get the weapon expander, then a separate gold mount module.
maybe wooden camera or someone will have a better option in the future.
