  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Please don't let the handcuffs of legacy paralyze us into being average.

Love that!
As a Dragon user I should feel put at a disadvantage? Come on, I had my chance to find an economic path to the RED system with the Scarlet going to Epic Dragon.
Raven is the new gateway (drug) that leads to Weapon, well done. I welcome the RAVEN as it will lead to a broader user base which is good for everybody.

Cheers

Ulf

Hi Jarred, does the Raven has HDR-X?
Yes, Brent answered this question earlier in this thread. HDRx is supported. 4k HDRx with up to 60fps sounds more than awesome. ...man how much missed i HDRx on Scarlet/MX because it couldn't do it at 4k in motion. ;)

Can't wait to see what third party modules become available for Raven, are the offhollywood ones the only current option? I couldn't find a price on there mini version.

I just want to upgrade our current 4 dragons into a weapon/raven body style....(just the body not the specs)

I wonder what would happen if one of the partners showed up on RED's doorstep with a CFast Side Module: smaller, lighter, faster, cheaper. And available everywhere in the world (soon). Not unimportant if something should happen to your media and you need to scramble quickly for more.

I expected the question for CFast to pop up earlier in this thread, in a somewhat different tone. Glad it didn't happen. ;) But your idea of 3rd-party modules for storage is interesting, not only for a cheaper CFast-solution and RAVEN.

Recollection of a vision of a large sensor compact 4K Redcode Raw recording camera, vision which started this project, brings a heartwarming feel with this announcement.

Congrats to the Red team.

Two quick replies before I mow the lawn.

One, no OH is not only one making third party modules. Lots of great people and companies getting their hands dirty on dev on that front. Mark just happened to be first out of the gate raising his and asking if he could... And you know Mark sleeps only a tad more than Jarred, so he is moving at warp speed.

Two, we totally get the request on media. We spend months and months qualifying media for speed, reilabiity over time, the ability to handle our horsepower over long shoots without heating up so much you can fry an egg on them. It is not as simple as "the media option x can go fast enough for RED." We have a host of other requirements and plenty of media are fast enough, but just cannot check the other boxes.

We want you shooting with 99.99999% confidence in your media. Some shots are once in a lifetime. Do you want to really want to gamble there?

exactly my thoughts on media, though i had serious sticker price shock and i first saw the investment, almost $2-3k just for cards, but when i thought about, we are all used to those cheap CF cards too and know how they fall in price every year. i want the most reliable media, for me its like the film, it better work and it better work all the time.
