  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Jarred.... Thanks for all your resent info on Raven and burning the midnight oil on RedUser.

I don't think RED is thinking from such a nefarious point of view... the fact is Canon EF is becoming a very viable mount... especially for the Vista Vision 8k... there are a lot of full frame cinema lenses readily available in EF mount to perfectly cover the sensor size of the VV 8k... even from brands such as Angenieux & Zeiss. RED is smart enough to realize trends... and adapt. Soon other manufacturers will release EF mount and perhaps full frame versions of their higher end lenses. When that happens... why stick with PL when you can use your EF lenses on a wider range of camera systems?

I don't think there's anything Nefarious in wanting to protect your flagship lines and not alienate your 'premium' customers, it's a smart move

i wish offhollywood or red would come up with an affordable very simple i/o module for just standard hdmi out and some redvolt connectors.
no sound, no sdi (we all have monitors that convert)
i rarely will record sound to the camera and really dont want to pay thousands just to be able to use a tv logic or smallhd, and dont want huge vmount bricks.

That is the basic idea behind the $950 jetpack.. noSDI, no audio inputs. Just HDMI and Power in, and timecode and sync connector so you can make sure the B cam timecode matches the A cam. O.. and a USB port to power a wireless HDMI dongle that is plugged into that HDMI port if you want to be sending wireless video .

oh can you mount a battery on that? which one?

oh, it has a lemo connection for the dc in, so battery cabled off the camera? battery belt? hmmmm...
i wish you had the exact same thing but could connect a redvolt directly on it, i walk away from the camera too much, needs to be connected to the body…or am i missing something.

They also have a redvoltxl expander that will let you do exactly
that.

I'm having trouble sorting out the best power solution. I want to put together the perfect gimbal set up, but I'm still having trouble visualizing the best way to power the camera and wireless FF.

The battery belt clip seems like an okay solution, but I'm concerned about a couple of things.

1. Being tethered to the gimbal... how can you pass it off to a second op?

2. How can you power your remote FF if the battery is on your belt?

I'm thinking I would like to keep the V mount battery on the shelf of the gimbal so that it can power the camera, power the FF and not be tethered to the operator.

but i dont think that can be used WITH the jetpack module, again, am i missing something?
i definitely dont want to be tethered, but then also just need an hdmi out…
the jetpack sounds great and maybe wil get me to go wireless, but im trying to figure out the power thing too.
any chance of a powered grip then?

Will there be a way to mount a V mount to the side of the camera (like on an Epic/Scarlet), while still having the jetpack on the back? I really want to keep the power solution (with p tap out) on the camera... without losing HDMI out.

I believe there are rumors of a sidehandle similar to the sidehandle they have with the scarlet and epic. No "official" announcement of it yet. Anyway just curious in the past, did RED ship to US customers and Europe customers at the same time or did Europe folks get their cameras later?

I would love to see one of the ravens on a dji ronin M i see it on the website from front view, But not a profile shot I would love to know if we could run XL's for power on the back and still fit clearance wise. Since when ive used a epic with a brick we have had extended arms, since this is a new system and Ronin M does not have after market extending arms I would love to find out how well it runs with them or if its better for me to run power to a V lock attached to the handle bars of the ronin

Im sure tons of people would love to know this since this camera is perfect for the ronin M in size and weight and is the most affordable gimbal out that is going to fly this thing.
cant wait to see me ordered the raven last night talked 2 fellow stuntmen to put a deposit on it too so now we are all going to have reds, Thanks for all the help and advice!

Big day shooting, get home, get everything charging, read 15 pages on this post, hahah. Excited about my deposit on Raven brain, I wonder what number I am in line? By the way my scarlet killed it today, shooting a horror short with contax and bpm, looked great.

Nick you were saying that the standard on Raven may be similar to low light olpf on epic. How does that compare to mx? I find I am good to go to 800 iso if enough blue light, or outdoor, if tungsten I go 500-. Any more news on the sensitivity of the standard olpf.
