  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Rushed to order before learning any specs... I trust RED to provide value. However, I would like to know what the case is made of just for curiosity's sake. Is it aluminum? No problem if it is... Ford trucks seem to be doing fine using aluminum.

hmmm, does seem cheaper to go with the package, well not cheaper but a good deal. with second 120 gb card the base I/O is $10800

Brain only with base expander, 240 gb card and lemo A is $9295.

$1505 difference, which is basically the 4.7", but you get the v mount base I/O, so seems upgraded, as well a handle. Hmmmmmmm, I can't decide.

I'm not going to give away all my secrets, but I have a lot of glass here. Zeiss, Canon, Leica, Olympus, Nikon, and lots of weirder stuff. All fits on the Canon EF Mount with a simple inexpensive adapter or going full on with a proper Cine-Mod with hard focus gears. You can convert some Canon FD/FL glass if you are a bit determined as well.

I'm more interested in if your MF glass will adapt. '-)

Don't want it to get lost... any targets for power consumption? How many watts roughly for the base package? Or even just the brain (I can figure out the rest)

Brent, what about a potential package with current Weapon Base Expander and RedVolt XL Module?

As of now, these two are only RAVEN packages (i.e, true bundles) on the table. But you can order what you want separately.

Congrats to the web pixies out there who made tonight flawless on the webserver front. Not even a slowdown...

Anybody remember the Scarlet ordering night? The site went down, then we couldn't get through on the phone... frantically trying to get a timestamp to save a spot in line...

This was smooth as butter. Ordered and done inside of 30 seconds.

Like it was yesterday. I may have peed a little.

Wow. There is so much to react to.

There are so many things that blow my mind.

Raven can shoot REDcode AND ProRes. (at the same time?? Brent are you guys for real??? WHAT!?)

Raven has a Dragon sensor that can shoot 120FPS.

Raven shoots 3:1 REDcode at 24fps in 4K.

Raven uses Weapon modules, so when I make the jump, all the gear will carry over.

Raven has adaptors available, so I can use a 5.0 touch from 2011. Obsolescence Obsolete.

Raven has scratch mics.

Raven uses media with capacities up to 1TB.

Raven has WiFi, so I can control it from my iPhone with Foolcontrol.

Raven auto blackshades

And, Raven looks badass, let's be real.

Raven isn't a stripped down RED. It's not a "rebadge" of a lower quality camera. This is a real, honest RED Digital Cinema product that is held to the same high standards as every other camera in the RED family. Many years from now, this will still be an extraordinary camera, capturing extraordinary images.

I didn't even know half of the things in that list when I placed my deposit. I was sold.

But when I read that the Base I/O package comes with a V Mount? I just about freakin' lost it. That's it. $9,950. Everything I need. I can finally join the RED family.

I haven't been this excited since I watched from the sidelines as Scarlet was announced.
This time, i'm jumping in.

These five months will fly by.

And, THIS is now my favorite post of the night.

Aluminum

I had this like insane nostalgia when I picked up my Weapon this week thinking back to Scarlet-X's release back in 2011. I have to say, I'm getting all those feels right now all over again to that November 3rd 2011 announcement at RSH.

This Raven is positioned and priced very aggressively.

For those new to all of this, you can adapt a whole lot of lenses to that Canon EF Mount. You have tons of options there.

Yup that Scarlet release night made a huge impact on my professional life. Hoping RAVEN does same for many more!!!

Having very similar dejavu!!!

Gotta disagree with you there Phil.

Leica M to EF isn't happening.
Nikon to EF exists, but it's a sketchy sliver of metal, and then you have to work G-series diaphragms...
PL to EF exists
, I have one - and it's won't even mount on about 75% of the lenses I've tried, and it's even sketchier than Nikon with heavy lenses...

This is a GREAT deal for Canon shooters
, and it will sell like hotcakes and I wish RED all the best with it.

For the rest of us... meh. Adaptors are always sketchy. RED had a price they wanted to get to and I understand that totally. But I question the decision to throw away the excellent DSMC mount system to get to it.

Well no, Leica-M isn't, but Leica-R works very well. And that's what you'd actually want based on the optical properties of the lens and the sensor in this case. Older Nikon-F is what I use.

I don't truly adapt PL to EF as that sort of is a weird one.

We are Friday in France.
It is 7:43AM here. I'm a bit ill (you know, season change, bad weather, that kind of stupid illness).
But... That announcement just made my day !

I want one. The prices are just insane ! Under 10k$ for an almost ready to shoot package it's just nuts (missing a lens and a battery pack obviously... But hey ! Am pretty sure it's still cheaper than an FS7 [at least in Europe...] and I'm convinced that it is better quality equipment than the URSA/URSA Mini)
It's just awesome. You're awesome. Red won the game !

Nick, guys like you are what have me pumped, hearing how the Scarlet helped you guys move forward in your career & knowing that I just got in on the A train for this time around!

Proud to have just made my first RED purchase! (deposit doesn't sound as dramatic:)
