  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing JETPACK for Weapon

Any chance on making a jetpack sdi version?

+1 that would be fantastic!!!

Also, am I safe to assume all modules with hdmi on weapon are 1080p? Any hope for a single 4k hdmi out?

JETPACK! I had to look. "Hey, can you hand me my jetpack over there!"

Jarred, careful man. Boba Fett, will come for you.

RED,

Could you advise if the HDMI output of the JETPACK would be compatible with the following sort of device:
Aizbo Full Hd 1080p

Is there an HDMI Dongle that RED has tested and is known to work?

(My interest is to use the Miracast wireless HDMI of a dongle to sent the RED GUI to the Epson BT-200 glasses for Gimbal control)

Thanks,
AJ

Miracast has a lot of latency. We looked at using Miracast on the Xbox One as a way to send the video from the Xbox to the display. Did not even come close to being usable for video games. Obviously game playback is far more sensitive to latency than video, but if you are trying to pull focus, I think it would be pretty bad.

the range is also pretty short on this device... it was really made send video "the other way" . The Nyrius from amazon is probably a better option, and although the best Nyrius version is alot more expensive, it gives you almost zero latency and almost 10x the operating distance.

Agreed. It's actually very usable on set. Many other brands are not.

Has anybody tested the nyrius prime vs the nyrius pro?

Jarred : Thanks for the "other way" feedback :)

Stacey : Useful tip on Latency.

I've just shot an email to Silicon Micro Displays http://www.siliconmicrodisplay.com/st1080.html to see if the ST1080 is still available.

Specs:
+) 1920 x 1080 in each eye - projected on a virtual 100" screen 10ft in front of you (easy to Focus)
+) HDMI input (straight from the Jetpack ... wired but almost no additional latency)
+) Goggles have a 10% transparency (so you have awareness of your surroundings)
+) They also sell a super thin HDMI cable ... which (hoping) should be able to poke out the back of a Gimbal?
+) Power requirements (7W) can be carried from a source in a backpack.

Thoughts on minimal Gimbal setup
+) No Screen to have to carry on the rig - so less weight
+) Glasses quoted contrast of 1200:1 ... easier to frame and focus than a 7" touch?
+) Better posture (no need to crane your head at a small screen on the handlebars)

Any downsides I am missing (other than looking like a space-age fashion victim?)

I really like that idea. I was hoping the Zeiss goggles would have worked better. As soon as I get a chance, I will test with Hololens. I wonder if there is useful filmmaking type app that could be developed for it. You can probably overlay some useful gimbal and camera data in realtime.

Does it out perform the Paralinx?
I have a movi 15 for use with paralinx sdi connection. I've looked at the SDI to hdmi converters, but the high quality ones are all fairly big and have power requirements.

I think a lot of people have commented on wanting the SDI and I use master primes when i shoot with the m15 so don't have a lot of clearence. Perhaps a carbon fiber jet pack that is SDI, maybe twice the price, but designed more for people shooting with cinema lenses & higher end transmitters?

Supper....

This could be the new Producer/Director monitor... actually seeing what the camera sees. Good if more than one set of glasses could view everything in real-time... assuming sending out a wireless signal via Nyrius or Pairalinx.
