  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing Epic-W GEMINI 5K

Just got my (used) Scarlet-W last week but have been following this thread since the end of March and am pretty excited to see some progress on a S-W upgrade path -- but I can't imagine the $12.5K upgrade price target is feasible or realistic.

While it would be nice to see, I just don't see how it's possible once you add in the overhead of having to deal with upgraded brains that don't work 100% and need to be re-tinkered with.

Still am super excited to see those who can use the premium hardware (and can afford the upgrade) showing off some new footage. I'd say the S-W is 50% more camera than I'll need for the remainder of the DSMC2 lifespan (2020 still?) -- but really glad to see there's an upgrade path coming around for the S-W folks who need more.

Maybe 12.5K + 5K.

As an Epic-W owner we need to shell out 5K to move sideways to Gemini.

It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds.
 
That would suck! but I would understand. Issue is then I wouldn't be able to afford it. :(

What does it mean? Is there no difference between Weapon and Epic-W and Scarlet-W from now on? Just different sensors and sizes? I wonder how it affects price...

I think were just about to find out. I did some creeping and Jarred is currently creating a thread... hahaha!
 
I wish it wasn't such a hit sensor. No resellers will let me trade in arris besides for helium and monstros ... but I have multiple of those and just need a Gemini sensor ideally. I know third party trade ins probably matter less then upgrades due but it gives people access to red or in my case more reds so I hope you consider this angle too please

One of the most important posts in the thread, quoted here in case anyone missed it. DSMC2 isn't going anywhere until "at least 2020". It's May 2018. Plenty of time to work the DSMC2.

Would it be wrong to assume that the future of Red Brains would be to include a way for us end users to swap out sensors ourselves? I know there's a whole lot of technical hurdles to jump through to make that happen but... what if.

Not with DSMC2. Perhaps DSMC3.
 
Gosh I'm loving this camera more and more each and every day. Straight off camera here kids. Lit with an Apeture 120D through a light-dome bounced off a white wall, (2) 150W Peppers, 2 practicals, and 1 18"x24" Litemat dimmed all the way down. Yea, Gemini is killer! 5K 6:5 anamorphic!

Shot with a Vintage Moller 32/2x Scope, and HCDNA single focus solution along with a Helios 44-2 58mm taking lens. Love this combo!
