  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Angenieux EZ lenses

All very well controlled. I didn't do much of bokeh test but we did throw it on the lens projector and it was strong all around. No real surprises considering it is coming from Angenieux. Again it won't replace any optimos or high end Angenieux glass but it is extremely versatile and practical at $13,000. Matt Workman was there with me and we shot a little bit with it and he should be posting a video about it soon.

Which optical block did you try it with? FF/VV or S35? Or both?

Why? Does the image seems inferior to your eyes?
What makes you say this, in concrete terms?

Just curious since I haven't tried them yet! Any additional info on how they compare to the high-end Angenieux glass - in image quality - would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

It certainly would be nice if Red could figure out a way to give us at least 16:9 in 8K that is Super-35 so we could use these lenses.

Not sure what you mean here. Look at the 8K full format sample in the middle from Mr. Ho above (beautiful samples btw, and gong hay fat choy sir)

That sample appears to be an 8K open gate shot showing the vignetting. 8KHD is a 16:9 center extraction from that. I'm predicting that the 8KHD format will be very usable with these. If you can't have any vignetting ever go down to 7.5kHD and I'm pretty sure you will be fine... or just use the expanded frame rear elements that cover vistavision 8K. Problem solved, much bigger coverage with small light loss.

I had the chance to test it at the Microsalon in Paris last Saturday!

Dan, what I meant is that I don't think that the image circle of the EZ-1 will cover Epic Weapon Helium Super 35 at it's widest angle.

So what is Red supposed to do, come out with a new sensor again?

If you use the EZ1 and EZ 2 with their vista vision back elements, they will fully cover any helium format, and ostensibly should do same for vista vision.

Personally I plan on not getting their rear expansion elements and just getting a single 1.2 or 1.4x teleconverter if I'm hard up for sensor coverage - like the one coming out from Tokina.

As someone anxiously waiting for my number to come up for my VV Dragon, the EZ zooms from Angie are very attractive to me as an owner/op. I'd love to shoot everything on Summilux-Cs and the Canon 50-1000 zoom, but their cost makes them rental house items (unless you happen to have mega bank). Every RedUser has different needs, clientele, proximity to rental houses, budget realities, etc. That said, as someone who was an owner/op of a Sony camera package for 11 years before getting on the RED train in 2007, my perspective is that $25K for a couple of nice zooms that cover most situations can actually pay off.

Looking forward to a test drive...

Cheers - #19

Ya they told me the ez-1 on the wide won't cover s35 and the ez-2 wide won't cover on VV

I've seen prototypes of the lenses on a couple of different S35mm cameras, and they will cover s35mm just fine. If you're referring to Helium 8k, that's not 's35mm' (and it's confusing as to why Red are marketing it as such), it's practically the same size as Dragon 6k.

....aaaand?????? ;)

They look really good!
I did not have much time to test purpose compared to an Optimo they seem more contrasted but with the sweetness Angenieux, no breathing ...
The products were invented in France and are made in Japan.

It cover VV

9,5K€
Waiting until 2018........ :(
