These look damn nice! I wonder what the price will be? They seem to hint at "cheaper than Optimo Style" which is good!

EDIT: Update: "The zooms will retail for around $10,000 US for the Super 35mm version, or $13,500 US for the lens with both Super 35 and full frame/ Vista Vision rear lens groups. The 30-90mm will start shipping in February or March next year, while the 15-40mm won’t be available until around July 2017."

I would have loved to have a 18-50 T2 1/3 covering the 6k Dragon. But I'll try their 22-60 T3 FF.
I still love my old Still Nikon F Angénieux 28-70 f2.6 FF from the 90's... It's look is definitly vintage ;-)

These are a great feat of optical engineering. I absolutely LOVE my Optima Styles, and can't wait to try these out. If they have a similar look to the Style line, these are winners!. Just really curious on the price...

Hmm I wonder if most people will prefer to use these as a T2 at 5.5k on dragon or a T3 at 6k. I might tend to go for T2. Then again perhaps the vignetting will be slight and soft for 6k HD given that the T2 image circle is so close...

I know it's a big deal for you Red people, and I don't doubt we'll see more large format sensors in the future, but just remember Alexa Mini, Alexa XT, Amira, C300, c500, c700, f5, f55, f35, F65, FS7, F3, FS100/700, C100, new Varicam line of cameras, most phantom cameras, blackmagic cameras, and many others are S35mm.

I think the T/2 'mode' will be very popular. FF is 8K Dragon, 5D's, A7S's and Phantom 65.

At this moment there is no doubt I'll know what configuration we'll be seeing these lenses in at first, the FF option will be great for possible future use or those using the short list afforementioned FF/vista cameras

Hehe, am I a RED person? I haven't owned a RED camera in years :)

Seriously though this is a great idea for people who want to own a lens or pair of lenses that works on any camera they could want to shoot on. Then again I suppose it's not that different from owning other S35/APSC lenses and carrying a 1.4x extender for FF shooting... even if that part isn't entirely revolutionary, just the prospect of modern affordable angenieux zooms is exciting.

One thing that I just noticed is that they also support other mounts like E-mount, but the picture is kind of ridiculous since the e-mount seems to just be a ~34mm empty tube...

Ryan to be fair, all ARRI cameras with OPEN GATE enabled are 28.7mm x 18.13 wide, which is in-fact wider than RED Dragon 6KHD (27.82mm x 15.65). So it's not like large sensors are a RED only thing, as Arri have been quietly doing it for quite some time now....

The other thing that could be cool is using the FF extenders to expand the focal length. If I'm not in a low light environment, or looking for minimal dof, I would often prefer a lens in the 20-60 range over the 15-45 range.

Nick, yes, that might be a fair point because many zooms for s35mm barely exceed the image circle requirement for standard s35mm sensor size (in contrast with most s35mm primes that often do), so I can see the value of perhaps using a zoom lens with a much larger image circle to cover something like open gate.

But on the other side of the token, I was comparing s35mm to Full frame photo/ vista vision size sensors, in which case, 6k HD on Dragon and Open Gate would both be considered a larger side of the s35mm domain and not a smaller vista vision format, which is much much larger.

Open gates is a 1.55:1 sensor ratio when in Arri 4:3 sensor mode, meaning there will be significant letter boxing or pillar boxing to even reach 2.39:1 or 16:9 common ratios. Maybe my experience is rare, but of the last 30 Arri jobs I've worked on, we've been 3.2k in 16:9 sensor mode or less, and thus never even approached open gate size. I think Open gate is used in a very low percentage of all Arri jobs, so just because it's available, I don't think it's an exception and I don't think Arri cameras should be called significantly larger than standard s35mm. In fact open gate is covered by 33.5mm image circle, from memory, so a great many lenses cover nicely.

My point wasn't to identify rare occasion and exceptions of when this would be handy, because of course those will exist, it was simply to illustrate my opinion that there is currently a much larger amount of people who use S35mm cameras than those who use full frame / vista vision cameras, so I anticipate the T/2 configurations to be wildly more popular at first and for awhile.

But your point is very valid for wide zooms as many wide zooms have image circles that just barely hit their idealized goal of S35mm and do not do well on those aforementioned sensors that are just bigger than that.

I am super-excited about the new EZ-1 and EZ-2! Has anyone heard any firm pricing? I've been reading things like "very affordable", "significantly less than the Optimo Style zooms", etc. but no really numbers. Also read that the EZ-1 is slated for Q1, 2017, and the EZ-2 would be sometime later in 2017. Anyone heard anything different?

Jack wins the prize! I just read that they will be $13,500 each including both the S35 and FF optical blocks. EF Mount, E Mount and the motorized ENG servo zoom controller from Movcam are extra cost items.

is there any footage from these lenses yet?
