HI, can someone confirm for me that if I shot RED Epic with an Anamorphic Lens at 5k I would be able to fill the frame as much as a 35mm Full Frame would allow? REDs Cinephotgraphy Crop Factor Tool seems to make it appear this is so. [i'm looking at getting the Panasonic LA7200 adaptor]. Thanks

I was one of the ops for a "great big world" music video and my epic was 5k FF 1.33x with the Panasonic adaptor and worked out great. Dp loved it.

The edge to edge usability, chromatic aberration, and all the hideous focus issues aren't worth what people charge for that old adapter (made for SD 1/3" chip cameras!!!!) I;d recommend looking into the new Letus or SLRmagic anamorphic options for modern cameras, HD, 2k, 4k or 5k. They'll give you a decent image. They still have all the focus issues - since they're just adaptors not all-in-one anamorphic lenses with proper mechanics and such.

The Panasonic Anamorphic adapter is still a great buy even just for making natural anamorphic flares. Newer models like the Letus Direct and SLRMagic ones are essentially the same idea but they use higher quality materials albeit for different sized lenses (the Letus being the most universal with support for cinema sized lenses). As far as filling the full 35mm frame that depends on whether you are using cropped/S35 lenses or full frame lenses. Full frame would give you the most coverage, of course, and both would receive the 1.33x squeeze from the adapters regardless.

The SLR Magic Anamorphot is really amazing for the price. Best anamorphic adapter I have used in almost every judge able category.

I dunno. I feel the bokeh isnt really "there" on the 1.33x anamorphics. I think 2x anamorphic is the way to go. (Hawk, Lomo)

Agreed . . . go big or why bother?
