  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amazon unlimited cloud storage for 59$ a year

Nice, but what is the bandwidth to get to your data? I use crashplan for backups and it's bandwidth is dismal.

I don't think Amazon wants to trash their reputation by placing limits on a 'unlimited' plan. They are the biggest cloud host around so bandwidth should be fine.

Now if only our country wasn't ranked so slow in bandwidth maybe we'd be alright lol? Who invented the net anyway?
 
How many TB will they allow for that fee, unlimited is a quite big number. Sounds a bit to good to be true, no?
 
I think Microsoft recently started offering unlimited cloud with their $100 office 365 software bundle and allows up to 5 users. However, at the time posted it was for non-commercial use - supposedly the commercial version would eventually get unlimited too but not sure how much it is.

The amazon version does sound good as it doesn't seem to limit to non-commercial and they are known to have ample server bandwidth as the previous poster said.

As an amazon prime member they are already giving us unlimited photo storage plus 5 gigs for other files.

I think red uses Amazon Web Services for their file hosting. If you do a firmware download the url first says s3.amazonaws.com and they seem pretty fast.
 
Hum, anyone able to get this working? My amazon account is tied to amazon.co.uk and it seem to relink to the "old terms" with "non-commercial" use warning + it says nothing about unlimited files, only photos, the rest is charged for. Crashplan is nice, but way to slow to use with the amount of data we have.

that's exactly why I think they would choke the bandwidth to limit the unlimited storage part of the equation. Otherwise it's too good to be true. I guess we just have to wait for somebody to test it.
 
Ah well.. Im out.. Would love to use it, but going through VPN, creating a new account etc etc. aint just worth it.

We logged in and dropped a 128gb R3D folder in the app and it went up super fast, didn't do the math on the actual speed and the R3D's were there no problem afterwards. I'm gonna try and upload a shitload of stuff and see what happens.

This is what I use, it has been unlimited for several months now. The single user Office 365 Personal is $60, unlimited storage on OneDrive. Been a flawless experience so far, though I use it mostly for personal use.
 
I have a 100Mbit upstream connection. I'm going to throw an 8tb drive into my workstation and back up the whole drive to Amazon's cloud service. I'll use the drive just to keep another backup copy of the media for the film I'm working on. We'll see how unlimited "unlimited" really is...

Only for uploading through a browser. Using their desktop app, there is no limit:

Currently upping ~260GB worth of r3d files. My up speed is somewhat limited by my server (~10Mbs), but my down is quite a bit faster. Will report back once I've upped/downed said files.
