  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amazing new whisky!

A nice blended scotch is Dewars White Lable. It's ok to put a ice cube or two in it. Not to pricy and smooth.

p.s. NO scotch and coke! lol

Laphraoig 10 yr. available in the states for really good prices at Bevmo and Trader Joe's.
If you can get a hold of it (and it's getting around now), that recommendation of Graeme's is damn tasty... my current fave as well... laphroaig quarter cask.
For people who like peaty booze.

I like the Macallan Fine and Rare but I'll take the Glen Garioch, 1958, 46 Year Old if I have too.

For starting with, Glenfiddich 12 is a good, affordable single malt. Aberlour is a nice Speyside - sweet and fruity, but not expensive. For Islay, Laphroaig is wonderful, but probably a bit too extreme - as are Ardbeg and Lagavulin. It's really hard to go wrong with an Islay if you don't mind the peat :-)

Ok, I'll try that Glenfiddich 12. If I show up here posting under the influence, though, it's gonna be your fault, Graeme. :)

That'll be fine - I usually code better under the influence....

Hey Shawn - thanks for the Scotch tutorial - I've been a single malt fan for years and didn't know they were blended with other singles. My dream is to go to Scotland and do the distillery tour...

My favorites have been Ardbeg and Lagavulin (preferably with a Montecristo #2) but they're really peaty/smoky and not for everyone. I just tried a very interesting Macallan speyside my wife brought back from London - it's a replica of their 1876 scotch both in flavor and packaging...very different.

Ha. I actually edit better under the influence. So we've got the guy designing the editing system, and the guy using the editing system, both under the influence to get maximum results. :)

Tonight one of my clients invited me out to enjoy a Cohiba (original, as Jim calls them). Good all the way down to the band. I drank a Coke, straight up, chilled.

Tom, the Glenfiddich 12 is decent, but not terribly flavorful in my opinion.

Try a Glenmorangie 12 year Port Finish. They stick the whisky in a barrel that use to hold Port wine, so it gets a slightly fruity taste to it. It's super smooth. Even people that say "I don't like Scotch" have liked this.

I can't help but chime on this one...Lagavulin is a great scotch... neat room temperature. Macallan is also nice. And then of course let's not forget Dewars

Another nice blended is Jhonnie Walker Blue Lable. I believe it's a blend of 15 to 60 year olds.

Blends have had a bad wrap over the years, but another good blend is Johnny Walker Gold, but one thing about Gold is it was designed to be frozen. Keep it in the freezer, serve frozen (a must), with a small piece of dark chocolate and a Monte Cristo #3 - makes for a great breakfast.

- okay, back to Red cameras.

WOW! Gold. Never seen that one. But then again I live in Orygun where you have to go to a state store to buy hard booze. Even in the snobbish, (read as "head up the..) town of Ashland they don't have that.
Is breakfast ready?

Thanks Dale,

I like TO, spent some time there when we were shooting that 65 3D piece for Science North. Nice city and great camera stores!

Okay, so I got The Glenlivet 12 at my local store for like 25 bucks, but drinking it straight is kinda rough. It makes my windpipe feel like an inferno. Will I be banned from the forum for admitting that I cut a couple of my Glenlivet glasses with Dr Pepper?

*ducks* *runs for cover*

Has anyone out there tried The Balvenie range of single malts? Exquisite to the last drop. In particular the 12 year old Double Wood...

The research on fine single malts is relentless...
