  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amazing NEW Way to use RED!

Mark,

I'm not an engineer but as a user I think that it should be make as a clean HD-SDI feed.

Before that it was X in the middle and time code but now it was cleaned.

Have a look below:

Sanjin - I'm not an engineer either - but I know that a graphic overlay is not the same as scaling with respect to hardware.

From what has been said, I think the new cams can have different settings for each monitor output. So the on camera LCD or EVF can have look around and the HD-SDI could potentially have a clean full frame broadcast grade feed at the same time.

RED1 should be as a multipurpose and modular 4K digital camera something like a Swiss Army Knife cine digital acquisition system far beyond any competitor.

Trust me when I tell you that EPIC will be widely deployed to shoot concerts and sporting events (boxing, etc.) where a LIVE FEED is vital - then mastering in a higher quality - higher resolution for distribution.

Thanks Mark.

I trust you too.

It would be a nice option to have in EPIC.

Options, options, and options for R1?

Example, right now I can only send frame guides and Meta data to 2 out of 3 video outs.

The Option that I would really need is to be able to choose which one get frames guides and which one gets a clean out.

I am talking about the R1 of course.

Clean out with the ability to choose which port get it, is a million dollar option.

Thanks

Michael T.

Sanjin,

I really don't need my RED ONE to be a can opener too.

Nice to have but not needed.

Hihihi

Build 30 Clean Feed

Build 30 Clean Feed

We added this "clean feed" option based on customer request. It's totally up to you guys if you want to use it.

The RED ONE (like most all other cameras pre-EPIC) has a single monitor path over which we either do or don't overlay a set of graphics.

With Clean Feed we suppress all graphics on the HD-SDI output to give a clean signal to record, the area of the image is equal to the .R3D frame plus the LOOK AROUND.

If you have black lines around the HD-SDI image you are grabbing you need to go to SYSTEM / SETUP / PROGRAM and select FEED = CLEAN.

If you want the viewfinder to show this same area, go to MONITOR / FRAME GUIDE / CUSTOM / LOOK AROUND = 0%

Thanks Stuart,

My boom guys live in the LOOK AROUND area.

They would be very sad if that is not an option.

Thanks again.

I think many people expected this out of their R1 when the spec was initially released.

The versatility of the ability to pipe a live feed and record in full quality for future use will be an impressive and invaluable feature, especially if it is available on Scarlet.

Live video streaming is here today, but tomorrow it will look good with the option for high def after the fact will be a game changer.

Is there any way to get a 1080 live feed out of the R-1? Suitable for recording?

This idea really is off the wall,

I am really sorry guys but why are you guys trying to get the RED to be a real time broadcast camera when it was not design as one.

This whole idea is like try to hack a video assist system on a film camera and using it for broadcast and not put any film in the camera at all.

LOL

Come on guys, How many of you would use a film camera in that way?

There are many tools in this tool box.

Please use the right one for the right job at the right time.

My ten cents.

Michael T.

P. S. Mark... All due respects. The look around is important to a lot of us. More than people who would use this camera in a broadcast studio.

You're right Michael.. What was I thinking!?

If you don't want to get behind this concept.. I respect that, and there are many other threads on here for you to enjoy.

Sound good?

Jay - he was just stating his opinion ... and even stated that it was ... "My ten cents."

I think your tone is way more "aggressive" than his.

If you dish it out ...

As a mostly solo shooter, the ability to record or deliver live broadcast standard video directly out of the upcoming Scarlet 2/3" is a big plus in my book. I don't want to have to rent or own a different camera just to satisfy a client's delivery requirements.
It is a digital camera. Doing both raw and video formats is a no brainer, especially if it can equal or better the video image quality of common 2/3" EFP cameras at half the cost or less.

I'm with you David.. Which is why I started this thread in the first place.

Art is nice.. I have some in my house, but since I discovered this new tool, I have booked three jobs with RED I would normally NEVER get cause I can give them the footage at the end of the day.

This is enough money to cover my youngest son's school for the year.

That's what it's all about for me.

This may come as a shock, but I know quite a bit about the RED. Some have even suggested I teach.

This is not is not a bragging contest.

I do wonder who has a lower camera number, who's has more hands on hours, who shots/DIT more music videos, or more features films?

Are you willing to put some money there?

I am not a shock at all. You might want to come to California and also join the teacher's union.

Go ahead and teach, and leave the "film making" to us.

I happen to love this camera as is and it's future brothers and sister with new features and potentials.

I won't try to change it to what it's not.

For your attempt at insults, I won't sink to your level.

Peace

I would love the Epic and Scarlet to be able to do it too. Especially Scarlet because the price point is competitive to the other broadcast cameras out there.

Thanks

(This is an attempt to shut down this conversation, which will end up going nowhere, and stay on topic at hand.. Which is far more interesting than us argueing)
