  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Amazing NEW Way to use RED!

I can only agree with everyone so much Mark.

I'm more interested in the SUBJECT of this thread..

So I am TRYING to keep it there.

I'll agree with anyone about anything so long as we can stay on the topic at hand.

that said:

Has anyone heard any rumors about new firestore drives that will support HD-SDI?? Reason being that NanoFlash is Sony XDCam... Firestore is Panasonic DVCPRO HD

Jay

Art is nice.. I have some in my house, but since I discovered this new tool, I have booked three jobs with RED I would normally NEVER get cause I can give them the footage at the end of the day.

Any one can take a Hummer and turn it into a taxi cab to get customers.

So you will blast any one who might add a concern or combo that might work better?

My boom guys live in the LOOK AROUND area.

They would be very sad if that is not an option. - me -

I said I wanted it as an OPTION but also leave my OPTION for LOOK AROUND in.

Thank You

You can add me to the list Michael. I have been shooting for 30 years. Not motion pictures(although I respect and sometimes envy those who do).

My work is almost exclusively SD broadcast television. The stations in my market have not made the jump to Local origination HD. So all local programing is still kicked out on Beta SP or DVcam. Fast turnaround, low budget. Despite having our Red for almost two years, 80% of our work is still done on much older equipment. We record much of our long form programing directly from Sony 500 dvcam to hard drive in the studio. It just doesn't make sense to produce these shows with the current Red workflow.

This thread has me hoping that will change, Don't get me wrong, I understand the drawbacks of this approach. But honestly, does anyone believe that the Red One using HD-SDI output couldn't outperform a DV camera. I can't change our business model,. It's worked very well for us but if we can take advantage of this revolutionary camera, even under limited circumstances, It great news to us.

We all work in different ways. Choice is good.

Michael,

This discussion is not on topic. I'm sorry for snapping, but I'm not going to respond to it any further.

It's not the subject of this thread, and we're wasting people's time filling it up with this crap.

So let's move on ok? The summary of my origional post to you was simply this:

You shoot your way, and I will shoot mine.

One does not have to be wrong for the other to be right. Although a little respect for each other's choices would not be a bad thing.

Well said Frank.

I totally agree with you Frank.

I hope Scarlet will provide for this because the price point is in line with other broadcast cameras in the broadcast industry. I am excited to be able to mount an auto focus lens on a Scarlet also and shoot live events.

Thanks

You shoot your way, and I will shoot mine.

This is not about the way we shoot.

It is about two feature that's needed, and one can not exist without the other.

You want yours to be added, I want mine to stay.

Let's try to get both.

Cool?

Michael T.

Michael you lost me.

I was not asking for anything. I'm happy with what we have right now.

What is it you think I am asking for, or what feature do you think I want removed that you want to stay?

Jay

What is it you think I am asking for, or what feature do you think I want removed that you want to stay?

You want a totally clean signal?

I want the LOOK AROUND to stay.

The option as is as Sanjin described, with LOOK AROUND.

Captured movie has 720p resolution but the clean image has actually about 1173x664 px of resolution (if my crop was close to OK size). - Sanjin-

Stuart showed you how it can be done and leave our LOOK AROUND feature in.

With Clean Feed we suppress all graphics on the HD-SDI output to give a clean signal to record, the area of the image is equal to the .R3D frame plus the LOOK AROUND.

If you have black lines around the HD-SDI image you are grabbing you need to go to SYSTEM / SETUP / PROGRAM and select FEED = CLEAN.

If you want the viewfinder to show this same area, go to MONITOR / FRAME GUIDE / CUSTOM / LOOK AROUND = 0% - Stuart English-

I was happy with that news.

You started the battle.

Michael T.

Menu:
PROJECT - SETUP - PROGRAM -FEED

Select CLEAN and you get a clean image

Select MENU and you get menu choices WITH LOOK AROUND.

So everyone wins.. I still don't understand what's bothering you so much.

This is already in Build 30... The ENTIRE point of this thread is not that we need a clean image..It's that we HAVE ONE. So you can record it now. You've got me confused

Jay

Perhaps this is based on Sanjin's point that the Clean Feed also shows the Look around in HD-SDI when you select CLEAN. Perhaps he wants it to match the R3Ds recordable area.

Personally this does not bother me so much. I dunno.. I still don't see the issue here. Looks like everything every one wants is there.. Except a 1080p feed... And that's not possible with R1

Jay

I still don't understand what's bothering you so much.

Just one little itch.

:)

The RED ONE is NOT a film camera.

The RED ONE is NOT video camera.

The RED ONE is a DIGITAL CINEMA camera.

The Scarlet is designed and priced for everyone including those who shoot "Videos".

:)

Thanks

How about.. for this point.. We agree to disagree.

I say each person should use RED in the way that works best for them.. And if it makes them a good living.

God bless 'em.

Jay

We added this "clean feed" option based on customer request. It's totally up to you guys if you want to use it.

The RED ONE (like most all other cameras pre-EPIC) has a single monitor path over which we either do or don't overlay a set of graphics.

If you want the viewfinder to show this same area, go to MONITOR / FRAME GUIDE / CUSTOM / LOOK AROUND = 0%

Stuart,

thanks a lot letting us know about how to get CLEAN FEED with HDSDI out from R1.

You were the first who clarified the thing just because you're made it obviously to work in that way as you told us.

HDSDI CLEAN FEED on R1 captured with FCP7/Kona3 on MacPro.

R1 as a SWISS ARMY KNIFE (metaphorically speaking) is working well now.

I 2nd the motion. Our world changes DAILY and if you don't change.....? This camera company is allowing for each of us to be rebels and exactly how we decide to be!

Agree

Art is nice.. I have some in my house, but since I discovered this new tool, I have booked three jobs with RED I would normally NEVER get cause I can give them the footage at the end of the day.

FYI

In most cases.

I have always been able to deliver footage at the end of the day, and now with the RED Rocket™? It's even better.

Especially 720p. Even my laptop can render that during the day.

REDLINE
RED RUSHES
Scratch Cine

They work just fine and I think they give you more choice and better shelve life protection.

Shoot in the highest quality and render at what you use for now.

I don't only shoot for my clients, I will try to future proof them.

The easiest sell you will ever make, if you have your client future in mind.

Sorry my server is down at the moment and I am shooting in a Jungle, I can't fix it just yet.

Been shooting this feature film here in India for the last two months.

I hope to be in post and in the US by the End of the month.

Thanks for checking.

Michael T.

P. S. Atlanta was my home town before I moved out to LA.
