  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Am I the only one seeing extreme banding in Bomb EVF? (Oled version)

I would never choose another option, as using external power batteries and clumsy 3rd party viewfinder through HDMI would just ruin my day too much. If only this robust, nicely designed viewfinder would get fixed somehow.
 
What about the BT LCOS then?

If I cant wait for the OLED to be fixed, is it that much better than the LCOS?
 
Same. Shadows and blacks are impossible to judge accurately.
 
THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL

The OLED EVF is $4,000! Four grand!!
And it's not up to professional standards.

The EPIC is amazing. The EVF is not.
 
Hmm, pity to read these comments. the OLED EVF was close on my list for upgrades but now I will wait and just use my 9" instead.

Don't blame you - I got the OLED "upgrade" and the colour reproduction is terrible, but all seemingly normal by Red's specs. Very, very disappointing.

+1 im am in on this.... just wanted to do OLED upgrade and got aware of this issue.

hope is Dragon ASICS will have enough Processing power so we can have different (lets just call if for now) "LUT" then LCD / SDI and we all will be happy.

but at least a hint from red if that could happen ( or even with non DRAGON ) or if there might be BOMB EVF OLED V2.0 will be great

I just removed this item from my wish list. Very glad I found this thread before ordering.
 
Same here. It's my only complaint from Red.
After upgrading to Epic, my original EVF wouldn't work, so I had to sell it for cheap and buy the Bomb EVF. Aside from the form factor and the bad performance on cold weather (for the old EVF), I have to say that I think I liked better the image in the original. Then soon enough they released the OLED version, and after some people commenting that "it was like seeing through a window!", I upgraded just to realized that it was so warm and it was imposble to match the image to the LCD even closely!!. The advise to play with the shadow metadata, doesn't help, because then the other monitors are so dark.

I know red has so many things to worry about now, but I agree this is a must fix we all need ASAP.

Same here. The Bomb EVF is the highest item on my wish list of accessories. Any suggestions for other EVF solutions? Nothing expensive, I just want a quick fix for run-n-gun until a real fix is issued. An LCD loupe is probably the best option for me but it seems so bulky.
 
Funny Im testing a BOMB EVF LCOS on my Scarlet Clutch rig at the moment.

Im not used to the LCOS refresh rate (not sure if thats the term?).

Basically if used static it looks great but when I walk the screen judders a lot.

Looking for an alternative to my LCD 5" plus I have far sighted issues :(
 
Im with Andreas on this. I was considering upgrading to the OLED but I keep hearing about all the concerns and feel I want to wait a little longer to see what happens before going to a upgraded OLED EVF that may be just a lateral move.
 
Just got OLED evf from a friend who's had it for just a few months (never knew of this banding until now) ... any improvement on this issue?
 
Im curious as well. Has this been addressed and fixed in firmware upgrades for the epic dragon?
