  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

alternative to sunbounce

Take a very close look at the Chimera Panel Kits: http://chimeralighting.com/shop/?c=16896/PanelFrameKits

These are compact hollow metal frames...

...You attach these to any one or two grip heads.

Thanks Phil. Do you sandwich a side (or sides) of the Chimera frame between a "knuckle",
or use a "clamp of your choice that has a baby pin" to rig it onto a cstand?

I super digged the design idea of the SquareBounce, and looking for efficient yet sturdy ways to rig bounce boards to cstands.
EDIT: Seems Matthews "Polito" bracket should work: http://products.msegrip.com/collections/reflectors/products/polito-bracket

My rental house, DTC, has tons of stuff, but all the light modifiers built w/ cstands in mind are nets/silks/cookies.
EDIT: I think I was looking in the wrong place in their warehouse - seems like a matthboard and/or hand reflector yoke w/ positive lock will work

I'm love a reflector I can just stick in a cstand and lock it down,
as humans holding reflectors (or any light modifier) has not been the most efficient/effective solution in my experience.
EDIT: Matthews has what i'm looking for (but at those costs its a rental): http://products.msegrip.com/collections/reflectors

I like the chimera frames but the shock cord is a little scary. I had a photo flex frame with shock cord and I had to keep tightening the cord all the time when it would lose elasticity. Maybe chimera uses a better elastic? I have the sunbiunce now but i would consider one of these frames in a more stamdard size.

I have the same Photoflex frames too. My cords haven't died yet and mine are extremely old (the fabric is yellowed), but I'm certain they will one day truly die on me. These frames are much thinner and lighter weight. I'll shoot some stills next time I have them out. I know I'm using them on the 23rd of this month.

Standard Grip Head/Knuckle. The tube of the frame fits in the knuckle teeth. You can rig them with one or two knuckles depending on what you are up to. The 6x6' I'd likely recommend using two knuckles if possible, more for safety. You can also use other clamps.
