  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar still camera lense to PL-style mount

Music to my ears good man. Allstar, would you say as simple or similar to the current nikon mount installation?

Are the leica mounts weeks away or months away from being available? Sorry to pester you. ;)

Id like to know this too. Also BNCR is of interest to us.

thanks,

Dave

With your system is there clearance for iris gear access?
Looks to be recessed on some Nikon and Contex lenses.

Hey Allstar, I agree the GX iris control should not be part of the actual mount...I also feel a GX iris control adaptor for nikon lenses would be another reason people would buy your system. Please make this. Cheers and good luck with RED evaluation.

Can someone please give an executive summary of exactly what this mount does in its current forum?

Basically, it is a universal camera mount. You put an adapter on your Nikon lenses and they will fit the A Mount. Or you put a PL adapter into the A Mount and use your PL lenses. It is a quick way to switch between PL and Nikon (or other mounts in the future).

Canon?

Will this work with Contax N Zeiss?

Contax C/Y and Contax N are different mounts.
C/Y lenses are manual focus, N lenses are auto focus.

Thanks for clearing that up David. I am not so familiar with this family of glass but I seem to always find them on shelf at used lens shops around town.

They also make a G mount for Contax range finder cameras.
There is a company that does a N mount to Canon EF mount conversion so you can use Contax N auto focus lenses on a Canon EOS DSLR with full electronic control.
Most of my experience is with the manual focus Zeiss Contax C/Y mount glass which in my opinion offers a huge bang for the buck.

All the Best!

I like these lenses too. The Short Contax Zoom is very good on an EOS camera with the mount conversion. I wonder if it is possible for it to use it on A mount in some way.

The other lens that is useful and often over looked is a Canon FD 35mm-105mm f3.5 short zoom. Its very inexpensive.

Is FD possible with A mount ?

I think that it's a problem with the flange focal length between PL and Canon. PL is 52mm and Canon is 42mm. The Nikon glass is 46.5mm.

I think that there is not enough room in the mount to get the glass close enough to the sensor plane in order to accomplish the correct flange focal distance for the glass because it's a 10mm difference from PL mount.

I'm begging you to not make the mistake two lens mount manufactures have made by starting to sell their mounts before having received an approval from RED.

We are eager to get a good mount, and you are eager to recoup some of your investments. But please give your baby a few days extra time so it doesn't get killed before it had a chance. The concept is just too good!

Get in touch with Jarred and start this whole thing off on a good foot with RED.

And just as a cautionary note: this mount is not currently approved by RED, thus installation of it will void your warranty (if there is any left on your camera) and likely void the trade-in program for an Epic.

Totally agree. Please Allstar, don't fall at the last hurdle. For all of our sakes, please hold off sales until you have Red approval.

This thing looks like the magic bullet to me. Can't wait to get Red's approval to buy one.
