  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar still camera lense to PL-style mount

We still havn't seen it... waiting for those first samples.

This is the mount a lot of people have been waiting for.
For the documentary style of shooting, with a light weight Red setup like the one Steve Gibby uses, this mount will be invaluable.
Well done ALLSTAR, I'm buying one as soon as they are available and Jarred approves. :)

Cheers,

Milan

Unofficial Update

Unofficial Update

I thought some folks might want to know.

I exchanged emails with Allstar over the weekend. He said he is changing the design on the lens mount because people don't like the original one that requires removal of the stock Nikon mount. Adding manufacturing delay, so he doesn't have a working model for RED to evaluate yet.

In any event, I think he should post update in this forum as quite a few people seem to like his idea and pricing, myself included, and are anxiously looking forward to seeing/buying his product.

…and it might be a very smart move to keep RED (i.e. Jarred) updated as to what is happening. And by update I mean not here on the forum.

There have been other manufacturers of good mounts burned by this (I would call it: obvious, but history proves me wrong) step.

:undecided:I would like to apologize for my disappear. I am not hiding, I have been working on the new design of this products. It's much harder to create a new model than just to modify the exist models. I have to consider about the adjustable for many kinds of lenses, as well as about the acceptability of the clients. So, there are many details should be thought.
I am not only a producer of accessories, but also a DP like most of you here, I know what we need and what we want, and many thanks to lots suggestions from some of you. So I reconsider the design of this mount ( I call it "A-Mount).

Now, I am going to let you know about my progress:
The size of A-Mount was set and produced, as well as the PL adapter.
The adapter for still camera lenses will be different than the previous one. The previous one is very strong, but you have to disassemble the mount of lenses in order to ensemble it. Now I design two kinds adapters:
one could be mounted on the lenses mount directly, and could be disassemble quickly, like the common still camera lenses adapter on the market. I'm producing the adapter for Nikon and Contax, Leica will be next.
The other one is like the previous design, you have to disassemble the original mount, and then ensemble this adapter. This style will come with housing, which means this adapter could provide Iris, Focus and zoom ring. This adapter will be designed first for Nikon G Lenses. But I need more time to work on and test it.
So now, the A-mount is done, and so does the PL mount. But Lenses adapters are still producing. The system is not complete yet, therefore I cannot send it to RED team for test.
There is no schedule for it, but not so far. I asked the factory to finish asap. :mad2:I hope the system is complete when it is available. We all know that it will be a disaster if it needs any modify after that. Maybe there will be many mounts made by other companies, but I do believe that A-mount has specialty and creativity that cannot be replaced by others. So, if you need it, please give me more time.

Update please...

Still very interested in this......

On another topic we purchased some items from Allstar recently, great high quality items, promptly delivered at a good price. Ill certainly be using Allstar again.

hi everyone,
due to some reasons, the schedule was delayed. I am here to post the progress with some pictures.
This is A-mount and the lenses adapter. All the raw material are 7075 aluminum and stainless steel, and they were made by turning-milling complex CNC machine, so they have more accuracy and strength.
The price of A-mount is $300 USD. and the price of PL-adapter is $260 USD.

This is the adapter of Nikon lenses, all you have to do is to screw it on the original mount. Quick and easy!
Now I have mounts for Nikon and Contax, and there will be more for Leica and m42.

This video shows how to change different types of lenses on A-mount.

I will keep working on it and do my best.
many thanks to those who support Allstar.
and thank everybody for your patience.

Great update. Can't wait to use Leica R lenses ob a RED camera. Can you make one that controls the iris on a Canon EF lens?

Nice....

Allstar, can you kindly explain me this: i understand that pl mount is your specific PL mount which goes on to A- mount, to have possibility to use PL mount lenses, but you didn't mention the price of that aluminium adapter which you screw on nikon lens.
i mean we will need at least few of them to make sense of it - which is - to work faster on the set.

what is the cost of that adapter?

maybe it's just me - but are these things available right now? if yes - can you explain in more detail how to order it from you. thank you,

filip

hi filip,
thank you for asking.
the price of the aluminium adapter will be anounced later.
The products need more tests, because all of them are invented by me, not modify from others, therefore there were many problems during producing. Now I need to make sure all of them have no problem and function well. So they are not on sale yet.
I will let everyone know about more details asap.
Thank you very much.

Very Nice. So do you think it possible to have an A mount on Epic and Scarlet ?
