  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar A-mount system is available! --with REDONE approved!

Ok I'm going to try again- common sense this time - maybe this will work.
Two systems:
1. Camera body->lens adapter-> lens
2. Camera body->neutral mount->a-mount adapter->lens adapter->lens
Which one do you think will have more precision- centering, tilt, flange distance, etc.
Mounting a lens on camera requires certain amount of precision. After a number of components you simply lose control over it(precision) and you are counting on luck.
I personally am not interested in luck when it comes to precision.
Others maybe OK with it.
As long as they understand it.......
again- I like the system- I think it's great for some applications- just not for this one....
Absolutely nothing personal I have more experience with this than most here and am trying to share the technical resource.....
As always- with all due respect......

Jacek, With respect, I am definitely not a lens technician and appreciate your concern since you are, but it looks to me like A-star has worked out the issues you point out.

I had the same question when the A-mount first arrived for the Red-one. I used the "target null" and back focused the Red spot on, and doubled checked a few lenses that they were coming up on the numbers. Them switched over to the A-mount system, put the A-star PL mount on and then the Null target once again, and it was perfect. Then I double checked the lenses and they were exactly on the money also. I then did a flat field test and all looked great. I understand the concern about the extra layer of adaptation but its nothing that precision engineering with quality metals and tight tolerances cant overcome. Ive seen too many lens adapters made out of cheesy aluminum and bad wobbly still lenses where next to this system with its rock solid mount wins easy over the (crappy) "single layer" adapter.

Now maybe at some point other high quality adapters will arrive on the scene and we will re-evaluate. Granted the possibility for errors are there, but if the numbers come up perfect, with a flat field..... then its a solvable challenge, and the A-star system has achieved it from our tests.

When you add to the equation that there are no Nikon, leica R, Nikon G, Yashica or any Single layer adapters available right now for the f3.... forget about it, just buy it you wont be sorry!

cheers, Erich

Perfect!!!
I'm glad it worked out for you and hope it works out for everyone else.
Good Luck!!! (no pun intended)

Well the MTF adaptor is selling heaps at the moment for the Nikon F and G mount lenses with iris control. I know as I have one on my F3.

Great you got one. I have had one on order with Abel for 2 months, and they say they don't know when it will be available.

That's what I meant by "not available". Its been designed and some have shipped, but there is a supply problem... I'm guessing Japan.

I always attach importance on the precision, so we use the precision way to manufacture and make by high quality stainless steel, it cost higher then common adapters and mounts. Using A-mount system don`t need luck, and time will prove which mount will wear the lens more.
I appreciate you can share your experience and technical resource, but please use it personally first before you want to comment on it, also please respect our craft quality and effort.

The MTF doesn't have F-stop functionality, just a small thumb screw for adjustment. It does work, but it is a far from ideal solution. I have to hand it to Mike at MTF though. He made our F3 usable from Day One, because we couldn't afford to buy PL glass and we 're a long way from rental houses. And that is not to be forgotton.

A-mount system for M4/3 was available!

The M4/3 mount base dosen`t need Rods support or need to screw some screws on camera. I have a special design on it and you just need a special tool to assemble. It is very precision and won`t have any play, very very solidly!
I test back focus by FDC

You will have PL-style nikon lens

Next, Sony E-mount base. If someone could provide EPIC PL mount for me, EPIC base will be the next.

So how does the final G-adaptor look like?

Not yet, it will look like the prototype: http://www.vimeo.com/18052876
easier to assemble and more accurately.

Allstar- please make the Iris Adjustment ring bigger -
make it come further out, and more forward from the A-mount, compared to the prototype, so that it is easier to get fingers in to adjust the iris.

ALLSTAR,
is there any chance Your A-mount system will work in "future" with FS100 and Canon L lenses? If so-when?

regards
Jiri

Thanks Allstar. I can send you my Sigma lenses so you can work on it.
