  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar A-mount system is available! --with REDONE approved!

Allstar,

By any chance, are you planning to attend the RED Community Event Thursday night in Hollywood? If not, what is the return policy on the mounts, since I can't see them function before ordering? Do you ship FedEx?

Thanks, Tim Eaton

he lives on the otherside of the world, so I doubt it.

also.. you WONT want to return the mount.. guaranteed

Oct-19 will be available in next week, $280
I`m in Taiwan, all of my products are made in Taiwan. You will like the design of A-mount, it not just lock the lens solidly. The most important, it could increase your work efficiency.

Hi: I am looking at getting your whole system: A-Mount $300, PL, $260, BNCR $280, and OCT19 $280. That's a total of $1120. Do you offer package deals? What about taxes, duties, and shipping costs? (I am on the East Coast (zip 20006)

Also, is the OCT19 mount like the BNCR and PL mounts, in that you only need one. Or is it like the still lens mounts, where you need a mount on each lens?

Where are you in Taiwan? I have seen most of the South, from Tainan to Kaohsiung to Kenting National Park.

Thanks

All of cine lens adapters for A-mount have similar design, you just need one to work. I`m living in Taipei:smile:

OCT-19 adapter is available, the price is $280 USD.

Hi,

Would G mount workable with newer DX lenses? To be able to use the Sigma 4mm Fisheye for DX would be great.

What would be an advantage of Allstar system vs IMS, in general?

And if there is an advantage, does Allstar make his system for SI-2K camera?

Hi,

Is there any instruction material to install the G mount adapter?

EDIT:The vimeo clip "Prototyle G Adaptor" actually includes the assembling instruction.

So my shipment came in and I replaced the stock Nikon mount with Allstar. Now I don't have to get scared to do the swapping of the mount between PL and Nikon.
I purchased the x1 PL mount, x3 F Mounts and x1 G Mount. The PL mount works very well. I like the customized look with the A-mount on my RED ONE.

The G mount is the prototype. I had a Tamron lens with no iris ring (G type) for my NEX-5 and tried to mount it with the G mount prototype, but unfortunately, the iris ring comes with the G mount would hit the auto/manaul switch located on the lens near the mount area. So I took the iris rings with me (there are two kind of rings come with the mount, one shallow one and one deeper one) to a used camera/lens shop (MapCamera in Shinjuku) for hunting lenses that can work with the ring.

I found that Nikon DX lenses are designed so that they are less likely to conflict with the iris ring (s), but the Tamuron and the Sigma lenses have the auto/manual switch that sticks out around the edge of the lens mount area that conflict with the iris ring.

So I picked up Nikon ED DX 10.5mm/F2.8 Fisheye and the Nikon DX ED 17 - 200 mm/F3.5 - F5.6. The wide range zoom is the kind of lens that doesn't come in the F mount lens series which is very useful for live music shooting to cover wider range of framing and that is the main reason why I wanted the G mount to work.

It took sometime to understand how to assemble it but finally made it to work well. There are some cons like the shallow ring is set into the A mount and it is hard to reach to turn to adjust the iris, but I think it opens up the RED ONE's lens choices a great deal with the DX lenses. It is too bad that the iris ring conflicts with Sigma lens especially with a lens like 4.5mm Fisheye (I'm doing a dome projection jobs that requires it). Maybe chopping off the area that is conflicting the auto/manual focus switch would work, so I would buy extra iris rings to experiment that soon. Thanks Allstar!

I mounted a Nikkor 70 - 200mm ED zoom lens with the AllStar Nikon F-mount adaptor and it is rock solid. Not that I recommend using without a lens support but I'm impressed.

Thank you for your sharing. The feature of Allstar A-mount system is to improve the function of mount for still camera lenses, and to be more efficient. It needs to be used in person, so one can really understand. G-adapter is the weak part in A-mount system now, but I am working on it and I will make fine G-adapter.
You don't need lens support when you attach Nikon 70-200 on A-mount system. The F-adapter is solid like PL mount, and the weight of 70-200 is just like 16mm cine zoom lens. You really don't need lens support.
Btw, A-mount for Sony F3 is going to be available!!! The next will be AF100 (without any gap).
Hope I can get size of Epic mount module on NAB show, so that I can produce A-mount for Epic.

Thank you for the clarification on the lens support. Not needing it is even better! I just wanted to be safe stating it. Good luck with all of the other product development, too.

A-mount in the future will be devided into 2 parts: one is Allstar universal mount; the other part is "mount base".
A_M_system.jpg

So, for different camera, you use different mount base. But you use same Allstar Universal mount.
The attached photo is Allstar Universal mount and F3 mount base. The 2nd pic is breaked up.
It works like the original Sony PL mount, and it's easy to install and switch.
F3 mount base is available!
And next, Micro 4/3 will soon be out, then Sony E and EPIC.
G adapter is now producing. I will post the update once it is finished.

Here is photo of Allstar Universal Mount.
