  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

All the Epic/Dragon Vs. Alexa/Sony threads are belong to us...

LOL David, fancy meeting you here, was just about to post this when your pictures appeared.

Nice test shot. Things are definitely improving. I still think RC3/RG3 is a really nice default look though.

These are Luigi's overexposed T2.8 shots, with nothing but identical lift/gamma/gain adjustments made to both.

Old OLPF

NewOLPF

Oi...

That looks very right. Next week Stanley flies home...

Here is a DSC Labs chart I shot in 2010 for a, like it was at like for 320ISO F4 on Nikon glass. MX sensor.

Amazing how good this looks. I don't have any blown out examples but properly exposed the MX sensor hold up, even R1MX which this was.

Lit with Litepanels LED. The left side of Luigi's example looks a bit pink. Like its a mixed lighting source.

Black and white version to compare chroma in the greyscale.

wait ,
the 2 vertical top bars were yellow/green and now are deep orange ? i like the new richness ( the lack of it has always been the big issue ) but those 2 tones are completely changed ...
wondering how that affect skin tones

That looks like very good color consistency for over exposure and should bring much more natural skin tones and their roll off in extreme values.

And to be fair to Luigi's and the dragon here is the 2.8 exposure graded back and given the same treatment.

David certainly were perfect :) 2 different lights hehe .. I did not have time to make a perfect setup .. ;)
I do not know what to tell you everything is still thinner and better colors, especially in the underexposure.
This is a feeling.
Now I'm stuck, I would like to use your new camera, why, and better, but without the support of Premiere and Davinci Resolve upcoming projects are still obligated to use the Carbon.
Hopefully everything moves fast ..

Gunleik you have already made the change to the new OLPF?

Luigi,

it's still an excellent example. Was just showing MX is still very good! just can not push it as much as dragon.

In the r 3 d I am seeing from everywhere all I can say about the image is one word.

ELASTIC

push, pull, bend, highs mids lows. Does not want to break. DR is crazy. Phil's word, putty is also a good description.

Thanks for doing all this. Really helps everybody a lot.

battistella

ps: Magari se vieni a Firenze passi a salutare, no?

until Resolve new OLFP update you may get RedLogFilm TIFF/DPX output from latest REDCINE X and grade in Resolve.

David ;)
PS: si sarebbe bello firenze e' meravigliosa :)

Ergin,
yes of course but i have redrocket-x and i will use this :)

a small shot that intrigued me ....
I was just curious to see what contamination a tungsten light at 20% power ..... so I threw the chart and shot ..
and if they would have just DR moved from below at the top ....

see what you think ....

could you pls shoot some colourful scenes like supermarket, cars, people, playground etc with new OLFP dragon. Any scene with full of colourful objects can be ok.
i really like to see what we can do with hi contrast grading like kodakcolor.

same to me.. but this is old olpf...

That's disappointing. So we lost a bit of low end exposure? The color saturation looks better but it seems to have more of a green tint. Maybe Dragoncolor will fix this.

The new calibration looks noiser too :(

Matt,
I think we lost a little below, but we've lost something ...
I would have said the opposite in the monitor .. or maybe I opened more ', because it allowed me to go up more. And then it was under better ...

Ergin,
I can give you this other stuff .. I can not ...
I put too underexposed.
canon lens .

I wouldn't call it "disappointing" but it's also what I've seen. Waiting for Dragoncolor!

In the CML tests Dragon was equal to Alexa on the low end, so it is disappointing that we lost a bit on the low end unlike what Phil had suggested. There also appears to be a green tint to the image with the new olpf on the low end. It's like they reversed the color calibration from the old olpf taking the green tint out of the highlights but now it appears in the low end. From Luigi's example, the old olpf looks better for underexposure than the new, while the highlights of the new exceed the old.

It's nearly that... I think the mid tones are a bit "brighter" in the new OLPF decode, so yes we see some more noise but I wonder if it's due to a different response to how the low light are decoded. Crushing a bit the low lights would give you probably the same results. Again... I'll wait for the DragonColor to give my jugment. ;-)
