  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

All American Rejects - Wind Blows

Nice video Rich, what glass did you use? Also nice to see you over here at Reduser now. I was just thinking about you when I was over at Disney this last week.

Looks like super speeds to me.

hey, Rich. I'm a big fan of your music video work.

I'm also interested in the lens choice for this video.
Sorry to get technical but did you use and filters on set?

I really like the obscured close up feel of the video. Was any of that Macro?

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks guys,

its been a bit since the shoot but im pretty sure we had cooke s4's....i can double check with my dp on monday...

We had a set of diopters/split diopters that i would hold in front of the lens at different angles to smear the frame.

Tough doing a two day handheld shoot with the red in one hand and hand holding a diopter in the other...i ached for a bit after this. but it was fun.

We had a hydroflex rig for some of the water stuff...would have been cool to take the lead singer and camera out a little further into the ocean but we were slammed for time.

Rich,
Any idea what kind/model diopter you guys used? I would like to achieve a similar effect on a music video shoot I have coming up this summer. Thanks!

Rich, big fan of your work- especially the pop-up book stuff in "Clumsy"- Thanks for sharing this with us all, its a great video man!! I'd also be curious to hear about the diopters you used to create this great look.

Cheers,
TF

Absolutely breathtaking! I'd love to hear more about the techniques/gear used for this.

Anyone who knows anything about the process used to make these or the LV ads... Can you give me the name of a couple of split/diopters to try (intensity, brand, size etc.)

I have a narrative shoot coming up soon and would love to use that look for scene.

I second that request, any info on which brands/densities work nice.....figure its best to just go and test them, but any pre-advice would be great :)

The Video was shot on Arri Master Primes at 4k 2:1. 24fps-75fps

Frameless diopters (from Thomas Klaus' old stash) where handheld in front of the lens.

All natural light with some bounce. Maybe one light used for entire video.

Last ocean shot was with Hydroflex underwater housing.

Approx. $1500 for Red to clean sand out of the camera, even though it was covered.

Really like the music video also like the website setup its very well laid out. The light is just right for the song
