Hi,

Not sure if it's the right forum for this. I basically got a shot with what appears to be Aliasing, I just wonder why it happened and if any one have a clue how could I avoid this? Let me know what you think.

We shot 4K Prores 422 for this on the Scarlet-W using latest firmware 7.0.1.

Thanks.

Yes monitor sharpness goes onto the prores files. Easy to say now after the fact but r3d is great in these cases all pixels recorded and the full softness of the olpf is there if needed.

I had a similar issue a few months ago so I asked RED support for help. In the export settings (I'm using Resolve) if I select "force debayer to the highest quality" the problem is gone.

Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot guys, very useful as always. As Audy and Bjorn and the rest said, this was sharpness turned on in monitoring.

RED completely changed the menus on the new firmware. Sharpness that applied to monitoring is applied to the image if it's Prores, if it's RAW it's not applied. I really think this should be separated, what the monitor sharpness has to do with the Prores file sharpness?

On the other hand, RED reached out to me and opened a support ticket, costumer service is very responsive as always, I know people from RED are reading what we write and trying to address what we feel should be addressed the best they can.

Yes it can be confusing. Sharpening is there for monitoring on set when using HDMI/SDI output. The prores recording will mimic whatever is output. Perhaps a warning popup is needed.
