  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Alexa vs Epic image : who does it belong to?

I've been interviewed for an article in a local film/TV magazine and I was thinking of sending them the image of the Alexa and Epic that was posted here many moons ago (see attachment.

Who does this belong to? Where can I get permission for publication?

Or you can use any of the pics in this gallery, by giving do credit... ;)

Thanks for all your responses guys…I really appreciate it!
I remembered seeing it here first and thinking it must have been Jarred posting it, but wasn't sure. I've already sent a message off to Jarred to see if I can 'steal' his picture. ;)

Stephen, your very positive and uplifting comments show that you are not only illiterate (please try to reread and understand the title of my thread as well as the contents of my first post), but have lots of time to waste insulting others. Your condescending and disparaging comments and conclusions about me are based on erroneous assumptions, since you never really bothered to find out what the image was for. I merely asked to whom the photo belongs to so I could ask permission to use it, not your evaluation of whether or not I should actually spend my time and money making my own.

You see, the article in question isn't an in-depth article discussing my art as a cinematographer, but rather a short article on all the new cutting-edge, "low-cost" cameras such as the Alexa, Canon C300, Epic, etc. and they wanted my take on the Epic as one of the few independent owner/operators around here who owns one. Just to put things in perspective, the interviewer started out the interview with "so are all the problems with the RED true?" Imagine. So I mentioned my extremely positive experiences (the truth!) with both the RED One/MX and Epic. I described the Epic's features and advantages as well as I could, and the image in question was to have served the purpose of showing how small the Epic is compared to the Alexa, which I feel is really important, considering that most people out there still do not know this. Do I have an Alexa lying around in the closet? Do I want to spend thousands of dollars renting one just to take a picture? Do I have the time to photograph a couple of cameras to just to promote the Epic when there's already an image out there? Sorry to disappoint you Stephen, perhaps you do but I don't.

The reason why I posted this request in the first place was to find the owner to see if permission could be had to use it in that article. I actually feel I'm being correct in doing so rather than just stealing it. If the owner doesn't want to grant permission, it won't be published.

Stephen, here's a suggestion. if you have nothing better to do than go around insinuating that I'm too lazy or not competent enough to take pictures (or even know where to find a rental camera), I would ask you to please refrain from commenting in the thread I started. Thank you.

Only one word...BOOM

So, sorry for trollin... but this thread got reality show interesting/is great for existing because, like Fredrik said, a lot of picture permissions go unsought, so cheers for asking around first!

I'll def keep my eye open for the origin of the photo...not like I can dig much further than Mark or Ketch, but you never know!

Good Luck Jean!

PS Ketch, those pics are awesome!! Looks like it was a really, really fun shoot! Kinda jealous haha

Yeah the WARSAW test/shoot was a nice one, that is how a test within any two or more cameras should be done,
out in the same elements in which the projects for which the camera is going to be hired for will be shot, this are the only type
of test/shoots I do, bee it indoor or outdoor, it makes no sense ot do any other type of technical tests which might not even relate to the actual shooting needs... ;)

Imagine if you took that whopper great master prime off, it would be even smaller again.
This is a cracker photo. Makes me shake my head and laugh every time I see you post it.

My Days of lugging around giant cameras like the ARRI are so long gone... :) I could be happier.

PS... Just looking at the RAW CODEX box ontop of the ALEXA... ha! like a camera on top of a camera... so Funny!
I've got the same head and legs here with me now.. My tiny little EPIC on top of it looks stupid !
Time to sell them....

Thats great man! and yeah exactly, wouldn't make sense to do a camera test indoors when the actual shoot is outdoors.

How did the Alexa hold up that day? ...aside from it being the size of 4 Epics? haha

It's a bit of a misleading photo though... If you (or the interviewee) want to steer clear of bias... At least kit the Epic up with the same ins/outs as the Alexa. It will still look smaller... but I see that photo and just think "marketing".

Well if you really wanna show kits with equal functionality, you'd throw a pix/samurai/etc on the Epic, and a Codex on the Alexa. I think Ketch's photo is probably the best size comparison (ginormous Master Primes nonwithstanding)

The Epic in the picture has red screws, as far as I know only Reds own Epics has those, so either shot by someone at Red, or by someone thrusted by Red enough to borrow such a camera.

this is not true, my epic m #00087, the third one officially delivered a year ago, had red screws!

Mark,

you are spot on!!

I had to leave it on, as it was only fair, and all I did was take the EPIC off the tripod in which was taking a rest from the shoot, so as it was been used I picked up and posed next to the ALexamonster... ;)

But yeah, agree, and aside form special needs, Big ZOOM lenses and Super Telephotos are the only thing I use now days, and the Master Primes are GONE...

Been replaced by the much smaller and lighter, but most importantly LEAPS AND BOUNDS better IQ LEICA SUMMILUX CINE PRIMES... ;)

The Alexa did good, aside from a technical issue which had every one spinning heads looking thru the giant MANUAL,
but aside that, and the fact that had to seat aside to the HDRx tests, and the HIGH speed tests, I think is a good camera... JUST NOT FOR MOVIES!!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Nailed it:)

Always... ;)

Ketch, you are the best .....

Love that photo

Cheers

Peter

He he, thanks buddy, you better be in Vegas for the RED PARTY!!

I'll likely see you in LA few days earlier, and we can test some gear together... ;)

I'm glad I posted this thread just to see Ketch's grin in that photo!

Ha ha, yeah, I was trying to be nice to the Alexa guys, but this I couldn't help... ;)

I LOVE LIECA... (and Master primes)
