I've been interviewed for an article in a local film/TV magazine and I was thinking of sending them the image of the Alexa and Epic that was posted here many moons ago (see attachment.

Who does this belong to? Where can I get permission for publication?

You might do better to take your own photo! your signature includes Director of Photography!

Stephen...does this mean you'll be shipping me your Alexa so I can take the same picture? ;) Of course, if I had all the equipment, I would have done it myself...

Lets get this straight, your being interviewed as a DP & you want to use somebody elses images. I am totally amazed that you could even think for a moment that is a good idea! Why would you want to 'copy' the image, can't you think of another way to do the shot!
I think you need to go to a rental house, if your being interviewed about an Alexa at least you should know where you could find one!

I don't think he's claiming he took the picture, guys. I think it's just an example shot to compare the size of the two cameras.

Jesus Christ, he's only asking permission to use a still shot. He's not asking to use the guy's reel. SMH

If he is a DP why would he want to do that? , funnily enough the no of times Agencies use shots from my website only to ask if I could do the shot......

Because he is busy lensing more important things than a jovial webpicture. But feel free to follow up on your interrogation...

Here's the thread with the image... I don't think it was Toia's image (?) - but I have seen it on other threads - http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?47529-EPIC-and-Alexa/page34 - looks like it was posted by Jarred here - http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?47529-EPIC-and-Alexa/page29&p=628928#post628928

Ahh the fun of detective work - LOL.

So, looks like Jean should ask Jarred where it was sourced

The Epic in the picture has red screws, as far as I know only Reds own Epics has those, so either shot by someone at Red, or by someone thrusted by Red enough to borrow such a camera.

That's why I posted the thread trail... it ended at Jarred :)

The photo was shot and published here at the Red User forum by RED.

Probably Jarred knows more about it...

Thanks for all your responses guys…I really appreciate it!
I remembered seeing it here first and thinking it must have been Jarred posting it, but wasn't sure. I've already sent a message off to Jarred to see if I can 'steal' his picture. ;)

Stephen, your very positive and uplifting comments show that you are not only illiterate (please try to reread and understand the title of my thread as well as the contents of my first post), but have lots of time to waste insulting others. Your condescending and disparaging comments and conclusions about me are based on erroneous assumptions, since you never really bothered to find out what the image was for. I merely asked to whom the photo belongs to so I could ask permission to use it, not your evaluation of whether or not I should actually spend my time and money making my own.

You see, the article in question isn't an in-depth article discussing my art as a cinematographer, but rather a short article on all the new cutting-edge, "low-cost" cameras such as the Alexa, Canon C300, Epic, etc. and they wanted my take on the Epic as one of the few independent owner/operators around here who owns one. Just to put things in perspective, the interviewer started out the interview with "so are all the problems with the RED true?" Imagine. So I mentioned my extremely positive experiences (the truth!) with both the RED One/MX and Epic. I described the Epic's features and advantages as well as I could, and the image in question was to have served the purpose of showing how small the Epic is compared to the Alexa, which I feel is really important, considering that most people out there still do not know this. Do I have an Alexa lying around in the closet? Do I want to spend thousands of dollars renting one just to take a picture? Do I have the time to photograph a couple of cameras to just to promote the Epic when there's already an image out there? Sorry to disappoint you Stephen, perhaps you do but I don't.

The reason why I posted this request in the first place was to find the owner to see if permission could be had to use it in that article. I actually feel I'm being correct in doing so rather than just stealing it. If the owner doesn't want to grant permission, it won't be published.

Stephen, here's a suggestion. if you have nothing better to do than go around insinuating that I'm too lazy or not competent enough to take pictures (or even know where to find a rental camera), I would ask you to please refrain from commenting in the thread I started. Thank you.

You might want to mention the Sony F65 in the interview as well. It's causing a stir in LA at the moment, and I think a lot of studio productions will be facing the choice between the Epic and the F65.

When they're renting the camera for a fairly high budget film (>$10,000,000), I don't think the choice of camera is that big a factor or an expense. I think lenses, grip gear, mounts, storage, and so on will be exactly the same.

Very honourable to spend your time explaining. Instead of just filter through all the BS that can come up in a thread on reduser LOL. I saw it pop here again and was myself curious were the pic came from. To my amazement a small flame war had happened meanwhile LOL. The stretch some people will go for, just to argue for argument sake hahahaha.

For the record your post was clear and very straight forward and also something people should honour and respect. Finding out origins of material and asking for permission is what should be happening more often and should not be something we start to disrespect.
