yup, saw this yesterday. Very interesting indeed. Good for them, more business and more sales. Guess we'll see even more content shot Alexa over Epic due to the reduced rental cost.

camera body 30000, 44000 wow complete. Really good, value although with limitations recordings.
Well maybe you'll see more Alexa or maybe we will see more Epic Dragon.

Jesus F...ing Christ!

$65K "starter" kit for a 1080p camera, what a deal! Arri has gone nuts, then again, all those demented producers and DPs in Hollywood who sing their praise as if they are the cure to cancer are the ones to blame for their feeling of exalted self-importance and the ability to charge whatever they please. Whoever is exited about this should head over to Ebay and buy a SonyF35 for under $9K, add a ProRes recorder for $1,500 and you have a better camera than the Alexa for $10.5K...or they learn to actually process the files out of a RED and make them look better than the Alexa...

Alexa is a nice camera and a compelling option for many. The Alexa HD is a way for people to save a few $$$ if they don't need all the features of the M or Studio models. I don't think Arri is trying to make a ground-shaking move with their pricing here, it's just another option.

...not my cup of tea, that's for sure. About 1/3 of my work these days involves Alexa. It would be the most awesome camera in the world if they made it 60% smaller and doubled the resolution. Oh, wait, I already have one of those, it's called an EPIC.

When it comes to shooting RAW, I'll take REDRAW any day. Alexa uncompressed RAW offers no advantages, and of course is lower resolution. If you want baked images out of the camera in the form of ProRes or DNx, then Alexa wins on that front. Out of the box look on the Alexa is sublime. I'm not in to using out of the box looks, so it does little for me...

alexa 4k on the way i guess

It's inevitable. I'm guessing we'll see it at NAB next year, possibly even something serious at IBC. I was actually surprised to not see a 4K or 6K Alexa option at NAB this year.

Thank you Mr. Kilgroe -- this is what I tell Producers and Directors all the time and it's head-scratching that some just don't get it.

Does any body know how many alexas are out there and how many Red MX cameras, as epic, scarlet and redone MX?
To me there must be far more red's or? Even though the alexa seams to be the norm for rentals.

To me it's quite clear that the epic is a bit to difficult and have a bit to many different fuctions to learn for the average AC. I fiddle with our epic almost on a daily basis since it first came out and still there is a lot more to learn. With the alexa on the other hand it's possible to go through the menus once and then you feel confident you know whats up. Still I prefer the red way I would be bored if I had a camera that I know in full. But as a AC it's a different thing they feel humiliated when they do not know how to set up a frame guide for 4k widescreen when shooting full frame etc etc.

Responding to the market. Red should have done this a while back when many were asking for a ProRes proxy module or similar. Missed opportunity to get many more people into the ecosystem, now there are cheaper, easier options.

There are clear advantages where Epic is superior to Alexa.. but at same time there are also advantages with Alexa over Epic and not seeing this is a mistake. Being locked in to a tool is just good if you are selling this tool. If you are a user you need to select the one best for you situation.

"Alexa did some market research..." says the guy in the video? Please! EVERYBODY knows prores has been asked for for ages!! No need to waste time on "research".
Some say, prores is shit, some say is is THE shit. But In the mean time, all these cameras out there dont give the things people want. RED, Arri, please get it together and end this ego war. Just release all the Tech you have and cut the crap all together.
