  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ALERT! Please read.

WTF! Strong indication of corporate espionage... In fact, stealing some cash with it is a total give away...

But like everyone said... Mark, Thank God that your family is safe.

Anyways, take care & wish you luck with the cops.

Regards ~

The most important thing, by far, is that nobody was hurt.

It is a bit strange that you are eight hours by car to Munich.

Unlike a brand new camera from xyz(insert a company name here), Mark's camera is unique in so many ways... This camera won't be out on the wild for long! That is almost guaranteed. I'm just happy everyone is safe and sound!

Yes, unthinkable happens.
When "those guys" stole from my OB van 4 Sony D35 studio cameras (appx. 70000Eur worth) 6 years ago, I alarmed every one. Later I find out that they went to Bosnia, but when Bosnians heard from where the cameras are stolen they refused the "deal". When I gave up the police help and finally contact the "mafia" to buy out my stolen cameras they told me that all unsuccessful "deals" finish at the bottom of some lake.
I hope my experience will not repeat in this case.

Mark, Glad you and the fam are safe. (I know (on a small scale) how you must feel my first camera my wife bought me was stolen from our apartment)

@RED, I may have seen too many tech movies, but could the next build of Redcine-X maybe alert you guys of when someone tries to use footage from #6? (or is that way beyond legal?)

Really sorry Mark, glad you're safe, we'll activate our network all over France about this, if the camera is still around and if anything shows up we're likely to hear about it and will keep you posted.

If any help needed with the police let me know as well,

Best,

Arnaud

Mark & Red Team, so sorry to read these very bad news, it's incredibly shocking.

I was in the same area for a week years ago and there were some (minor) robberies back then as well, mainly cash and purses. Maybe it's just me, but I don't believe in the "corporate/industrial/commissioned theft", actually I think those bastards don't even know what they put their hands on.

Anyway, with all the bad things you hear about this kind of actions, with people being beaten before being robbed, the most important thing of all is that no one was hurt. Cameras are replaceable, people aren't.

At the end of the day, it's just a camera.

Thank god no one was hurt, given the crimes we all hear about these days.

Shit a brick! Sorry to hear about this Mark. At least all are well and unharmed - and thankfully nobody woke up while the intruders were in the apartment. As special as it is, remember number 0006 is only a camera and replaceable. My assumption is that it will soon be at the bottom of a lake or on a test bench in a competitor's factory but you never know.

Here is a detailed list of what was stolen that is RED/camera related:

EPIC camera body #00006
EPIC side-handle
EPIC Redmote
5" TOUCHSCREEN LCD for EPIC

Angenieux Optimo 15-40mm (will post serial as soon as I confirm it from state-side)

50mm RED Pro Prime - this lens is from the first set shipped - the lens is marked as T1.9 - with engraved text that reads "tested at T1.8"

prototype of Schneider clip on circular ND filter holder ring w/ND

2 x 128 G SSD (filled with EPIC footage)
REDSTATION REDMAG 1.8"
500G GDrive mini - filled with a back up of EPIC footage)
RED Quick Plate
2 x RED Brick batteries
LCD lemo cable
lemo adapter power cable
black Oakley bag

I feel violated. Angry. Shocked. There is a part of me that feels like I let RED and the community down. All of your comments are very appreciated - not exactly how I was expecting to end 2010. I was looking very forward to posting some amazing images - and yes - both copies of all the footage I've shot here is gone.

What is important is that my family is safe and unharmed. I hope the people responsible for this theft are found quickly.

Never a dull moment.

Happy New Year everyone - and sincerely - I really do appreciate everyones kinds words and support.

Mark, was all that gear in the one bag or did they have to assemble the kit?

I really feel for you and your family Mark. Glad you all are okay.
Cowardly thieves are leaches of life.

In Portuguese we would say "Força Mark"

Here is an idea:
What if the epics could have a GPS tracking device...kind of like the iphone...it would help...one that can only be switched off by RED...
I would pay extra for this, who wouldn't?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't believe in the "corporate/industrial/commissioned theft", actually I think those bastards don't even know what they put their hands on.
I agree. Tourists are a target for thieves the world over - there's nothing unusual about it, sad and unsettling though it must be for Mark and his family.

I echo everyone else who say I am glad all the family are safe. That is the most important thing.

EPIC can always be replaced but I am sure when those thefts work out what they got, it will turn up. I think Jim will have legal team on standby!

Cheer up Mark.
