  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Air sea land gear rocks!

The RED One camera is a marvel of industrial design, and they got a lot of things right, but Jim Jannard himself would be the first to admit that there is always room for improvement. We've seen a cottage industry develop to provide accessories specifically to bolster the camera's utility, if not fix certain inadequacies. The “RIP”, (Remote Interface Panel) and "RIB" from AirSeaLand, (formally Toys4Red), are standouts. They've taken the concept of a breakout box to new heights.

I’ve been testing this gear and find it invaluable; besides getting rid of the “Spaghetti Factory” coming out of the side of my camera, with one small industry standard DVI cable, the 50’ extension puts the connection hub at a comfortable distance. This keeps the immediate perimeter around my camera a clean and peaceful environment, even during reconnections, and Jam Sync. It is ideal for JibArm setups, which I tend to use quite often. Now that everybody and his brother seems to have a RED One to rent out, I feel having this gear really improves the RED One's utility and professionalism and sets my package apart from some of the others. Not everyone will want or need to pony up four grand, but for the segment of the market I'm after, I think it will be a worthwhile investment.

Two quick pics.

A 50' DVI-I cable compared to a 50' harness of 4-XLR's, 1-Audio monitor (headphone), & 3-BNC's . The DVI weighs in at 3 lbs, the harness at 18 lbs. Plus the DVI carries start/stop and 5 pin audio monitor, TC in & Out, and Genlock.

For hand held use, ALL inputs and outputs are carried down the single DVI. Much lighter and less restrictive on the I/O side. Love that Mantis rig!!
