Jim Jannard, someone, anyone, ask Peter Jackson if he'd do us all a small favor and make a movie called Moby Dick. Not the kid's expurgated version, but that towering gothic American icon that makes Batman look like Tinkerbell.
I had hoped Mr. Jackson would go there after Lord of the Rings but we got King Kong instead. Sigh. Call me Ishmael, but the great whale would trounce the Gorrilla any box office day of the week. Not to mention other obvious factors such as metaphors well suited to our times.

Now wouldn't that be a project for Epic? I can almost taste the salt air.

Good call. Jackson would be the perfect man for the job.

Looks like IMDBpro has a 2011 listing for Moby Dick. Anyone with IMDBpro that can ellaborate on this?

I'd rather he took Edgar Rice Burroughs "A Princess of Mars" away from Pixar

10,000 times better than Tarzan... I sure hope Pixar doesnt try to make it a
PG-13...or kid movie...not sure how they could... but this is the grand father
of all sci fi... wrote about everything from crusie control to anti gravity to computers
to laser guided projectiles, telepathy. astral projection, atmosphere plants and the RED ONE...(JK) all in another dimension not visible by telescopes on Mars... called Barsoom

he wrote about all that technology in 1912! almost every modern sci fi movie has stolen something from ERB.

Total Recall should have been called ... TOTAL RIP OFF

Weta and PJ would do those books justice...but instead its in the hands of the guy who did

WALL-E .. :ranting2:

It's a strange book, and full of contrasts- shimmering days and shadow creeping nights. Calm seas waiting to explode with death throws. Below decks a sort of purgatory or sanctuary; treacherous authority and strange allegiances: tattooed primitive and schoolteacher. All wrapped up in an Old Testament style obsession with the forces of 'evil'. And considering the events that inspired Melville to write this- the sinking of the Whale-ship Essex by a Whale,... - it might even make a trilogy. Wink Wink.

I can see one face attached to this: Mads Mikkelson
