  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

AF100 + Red + Low Light - Lense Options?

Has a Reduser any experience with R1 + Zeiss CP2 ?
Thank you.

Zeiss CP first generation review but it's about the same with CP2:

"This short film, The Bicycle, was created to test the new Zeiss Compact Primes in a real life production situation.
The film was shot on a RED One and a Panasonic Lumix GH1, with Hot Rod Adapter.

DP John Inwood talks about his experiences using the Compact Primes in this two-part behind the scenes video."

Yes, thanks, i've seen it, but i want to know more from redusers who use them all day long...

For the Nikonistis I'm making an af100 version of the Prolock mount with positive locking- possibly on both ends i.e bayonet for the camera mount.
Also as you know the Nikon Gs without iris ring are supported with iris control in the mount. No modifications to the lens necessary.
The last little surprise is an optical wide converter (built in) that will make the lens wider by about 30% and about 1/3- 1/2 stop faster.
So your wonderful 24mm f1.4 Nikon becomes 18mm f1.2(?!!!) on the adapter.
Of course there is no such a thing as free lunch in optics so you do take a (minor) image quality hit, but for video use it has no penalty.
will keep you posted......:wink5:

Jacek, how is this coming along? A buddy of mine just ordered an AF100 and was asking me about lenses for it. I would love to tell him about this adapter.

I just bought the full set of CP2 except for the 18+21mm as they are way too slow.
I also bought the new Zeiss Light weight zoom.

Ill be getting everything in the next 2 weeks, but the decider for me was that they are Zeiss and are perfect for steadicam.

Zeiss are releasing T2.1 version of the 18mm and 21mm this year

Jacek, be sure you make a support for your adapter so it can mount to rods; after playing for a couple of days with a AF101 with PL adapter; the plastic housing of the AF101 mount is so weak that when using a remote focus the whole mount vibrates and the image shifts horribly...

Would never use photographic zooms and nikons again. Only photo primes with M mount like Voigtlander with Red Pro 17-50mm t2.9. Don't like nikons because of their focus direction and canons because no iris ring and focus ring with no end. Just get Red zoom.

i came in a little late, but i think i can add something.

I got my af100 and added the 14-35 and 35-100 Oly lenses. they are a nice 2.0. then i added the Leica 25/1.4. very nice and fast lens. after that i bought the Oly E5. nice camera. btw, i find the olympus 4/3 to micro 4/3 was a better and lighter adapter.

this is an ideal combo, because i carry the af100 with the 14-35 on it, and have a small backpack with the E5, 35-100 and 25 in it. i can shoot video and stills with the same lenses. perfect small package for traveling.

the negative is that still photography zooms don't hold their focus when you zoom out. not so bad on the wide end of the 14-35, but an issue with the 35-100. that bit me in the a_s once with some interviews that i had to go re-shoot.

so i spent a little more money and got a cp1 50 and 85, and a hot rod pl adapter.
now when i shoot interviews i use the cp1s. really beautiful. and fast at T1.5.

but for traveling, i stick to the all oly package. it is small, lightweight and compact.
the one lens i plan to add is the oly 50/2.0 macro. for what i read about it, this might end up being my interview lens for when i travel. the cp1s will stay home, and i will use them on local jobs only.

Olympus 4/3rds lenses

Olympus 4/3rds lenses

Could you use the 4/3rds lenses on the Red One? Im trying to figure out what is the best lens option to use both on the Red One Mx and on the AF-100 (not Pl-mount) either full sensor 35 or 4/3rds lenses if possible. Just worrying about vignetting/chromatic aberration from using the Olympus 35-100 4/3 lens on Red One.
