Adobe Ripoff

@Andy - ooopppsss - did the calculate the wrong way round :-)

LOL - anyway, it's still cheap - not as dirt cheap as our US friends, but a good deal rather than full price :001_smile:

How hard is it to use a proxy or VPN and paying the US price? That's what I always do.

I found a solution, I'll go to Slovenia which is 40 km away, the price there is € 1.128,68 with SWITCH promo code, € 982,50 ex. TAX. That is still $ 1.425 without tax vs. $850, $575 price difference in US...but I guess I can live with that. Still it would be great if someone from Adobe responded and explained why is there such a price difference.

Are you sure your own countries are not responsible for this?

Taxes in your country, smaller market, cost of doing business/supporting your market, etc.

I would agree with Tom on this. Its not as simple as one price to rule them all. There are a lot of things to take into account, that are outside of the companies in question.

There is 3% tax difference in Croatia vs most of Europe. So that is not the case. I was talking about the price difference in European Union (except UK) vs. US. With the SWITCH code in EU we are still paying 40% more than US without tax. Anyway...I'll just buy it in Slovenia and be over with it. It's a 20 minute trip from my city.

Still, I'll stay by my statement that it is very unfair that European customers pay almost twice as much for the same product especially now that we are all downloading it and not buying a boxed product where there are S&H costs to take into account. I guess all I can do is hope that will change in the future and that we'll hear something from Adobe regarding this matter.

Actually I complained about the same thing some months ago. I don't why this happens. Apple makes you pay exactly the same in Europe--or at least in the Netherlands--in Euros what you pay in the US in dollars.

Yes, but we are talking about a download only product, and in my country there is a 60 or 70 percent price difference WITHOUT taxes applied. I know taxes are higher here, and that's not Adobe's fault. But I made my comparison without taxes or VAT.

When you compare Apple products, they cost roughly the same (I don't mind a bit of a price difference, but this is different, and although the heading was sensational, it is indeed a 'rip-off'.) There seems to be almost no software company that charges such big markups to their non-US customers as Adobe, which is why they have been critisized a lot about it. Why can other companies do this, and Adobe posts such big differences? I mean, there was a CS4 Photoshop update (or something) where they charged US customers 490 dollars and UK customers 1050 dollars. Please.

I'm not complaining about the price as it is. It's a great suite.
I just can't see the justification of such an unfair price difference, especially for download-only products.

Oh, and any Europe customers have experience with registering US-licenses and if they get the updates etc. ?

This has always been true of Adobe products. People have complained about it for years but Adobe refuses to budge.

In an era of software downloads, I can't see how it's justifiable any more (not that it ever was!)
