Adobe is charging US $ 850 for crossgrade from FCP or MC to CS 5.5 Production Premium in the US, while the price in Europe is US $ 3.326 for the same thing. That gives the US customers an unfair advantage and is really pissing me off. It is the same thing only almost 4 times more expensive. Before the crossgrade the price was US $ 1.699 in the US, and and US $ 3.326 for the rest of us. I wanted to post this here because apparently "Adobe is listening" to their customers on forums like these. And by the way Adobe, Avid is giving us crossgrade pricing here in Europe.

In todays day and age of digital downloads, how is it possible that there is such a big price difference for the same thing just because one is in another country. I understand there are taxes to take into consideration but that can be a difference of maybe 10% not 390%.

Adobe, guess which way Europe is going to go if you dont stop ripping us off. Avid, here I come.

Adobe one more time US$ 850 for US, US$ 3.326 in Europe. :furious3:

I called a representative here in Croatia and they told me that they have no information of such a discount coming. But still, if there was no crossgrade $ 1.699 vs. $ 3.326 is just a RIPOFF giving users in US unfair advantage over us in Europe. There must be some law they are braking for sure with a difference of 390%. It's no wonder most people pirate their software in Eastern Europe. I own FCS 3 and I'll keep using that and switch to Avid because when Scarlet comes out I want to be able to edit the footage in .r3d, without loosing any of the quality. That said, I have only two options, Premiere Pro or MC 5.5 because I'm a Mac user. My first option was Adobe because I used Premiere Pro in college, and there are other useful products in CS Production Premium but at that price, forget it. There is a lot more business in the US as far as Video production goes so this price is even more significant than it first seems because we get less work. The price of US $ 3.326 is just way too steep.

Ah sorry, I was referring to the UK Adobe store

Javor, I just went to New York and bought the whole cs 5.5 for about 800 dollars. Buy a ticket, enjoy yourself in New York for a couple of days and buy the damn thing. Production Premium 5.5 is like a dream come true after fcp

Let us say that they make crossgrade available here too, using the SWITCH code, that would come down to $ 1.633...still almost twice as much as $ 850. I'm downloading the software just the same as anyone in the US. Why do I have to pay twice the price...isn't it the same product? OK taxes are a bit higher here but that would make a difference of maybe 10% and I'm OK with that. What I would like is someone from Adobe to give me a valid reason for such a price difference.

Exactly...I'll fly over to New York, see the Big Apple and still have money left over to party for a couple of days :). But still...come on Adobe, I tried your products and I really like them I want to become your client for years to come...upgrades and all. You'll earn a lot of money from me trough the years with upgrades, but be fair with your pricing for all of us. FCP X is almost the same in US vs the rest now that it is in App Store. I see no reason why Adobe doesn't do the same.

try sending a polite message to someone at adobe about this situation. i'm sure there's some explanation. at that point maybe you can share with us. otherwise... enjoy your trip!

but please, we don't need any more negativity spread on these forums...

Well - the 'switch' promo code works in the UK & Europe store... maybe the problem is there's no direct link for your country?

On the price debate... the promo is good, but, being in the UK I'm used to (but don't like!) the fact that USA prices are alays soooo mcuh better. For example, the full CS5 promo package is £905 inc VAT - so that's $1,455.99! Compare that to the USA promo price of $849.50 - and you'll see why non US users get annoyed.

Being VAT registered allows you to claim back some of the price (20%) - but the price is still $1,213.16 vs the USA price of $849.50.

I'm not being negative - just pointing out the big price differentials European users face :)

I 'll try to feel your pain, but really quit putting out negative sensational headings. Your Heading should have been a question not a statement, eg "Why is Adobe charging twice as much in Europe"? The Adobe mods on here are not really salesmen but rather engineers. I bet you they can find out who is responsible and send you a link. I personally tried taking advantage of the cross-grade, here in the US, but met some resistance since I'm in the US, since I'm an existing customer. A simple call to Adobe fixed this. They are the way polite on the phone its amazing. Its kind of like calling Redgiant software, nice folk.

I've been complaning about this here too:
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?60506-Adobe-Offer...

The 1699 dollar price is in Belgium 1900 euros, making it 2750 dollars at this point, being a full 1000 dollars or (guessing) 70 percent more expensive.
Remember, this are the prices WITHOUT VAT and for a download-only. I don't understand how they can keep charging this, but apparently they do. I'm very interested in the offer of Adobe, because they seem to have a very strong suite, and I don't have any Adobe license yet.
But this is off-putting, and I don't know how to justify giving a company my money who charges such big markups. I don't know how calling Adobe would make a difference, because they have been critised a lot about these price differences, and they already issued (very flawed) statements about this.
I don't mind a 10-15 percent difference, but this isn't anything like that.

I just don't know if when I install a US-license here, if Adobe would accept it, and if it would give problems for upgrades/updates/bug fixes, ....

Nice to see some reaction here on this pricing difference, btw.

@Javor - have you used the code SWITCH when you buy?

I have just bought the Production Premier full version for £754.50 Ex VAT or £912.95 including VAT (TAX) in the UK store, thats US$589.

Don't know where your getting your US$3326 figure from :-)

I am not being negative, I was stating a fact. As I said, I've tried Adobe Production Premium and it fits my workflow, and the amount of products you are getting in the package is great and the programs are great, plus the learning curve from FCS is not steep. It's just the price that we have to pay that is unfair. From my point of of view the price should be the same + the applicable tax (which is 23% in Croatia). We are all downloading the package from Adobe server, that was my point, all doing the same thing with a huge price difference.

If anyone knows can they please let us know if we buy it in the US will the license be valid in Europe?

The full price in German Adobe Store is Euro 2.183,85, that is 3.161,02 USD without tax that is 2,746.16 USD. Than if we used the SWITCH code that comes to 1.373,08 USD. In Croatia that is even more expensive. £754.50 is US$1,212.45, not US$589. The UK price is better but still about 40% higher than US.

Europe itself has set up all kinds of funny trade protection, so that individual countries, despite supposedly free-trade and border movements, have all kinds of extra regulations and costs... perhaps thats why you see the UK store is much cheaper than the German store. Despite the existance of the internet, and awareness of global prices, prices for goods are not the same in every country.

Im sorry if this comes off as mean. But I feel that Adobe has the right to charge whatever they want. And being negative about it, doesn't really help.

Yes, I'm aware of that they can charge whatever they want...but twice as much.
