  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 announced. many updates

Sounds like lots of great new features, with many focused around Epic and R3Ds which is good news. I look forward to hearing and seeing more this week from the floor.

Nice, but The upgrade from CS5 to CS5.5 is $399? will wait for FCP news

Adobe are being quite relentless. I don't think many were expecting much of an upgrade till Q4 2011. They are also taking GPU acceleration to a whole new level.

I really like the new multi track audio sync tools and the overall announced playback speed and power

The first thing they mention in the upgrade is Audio Sync?

Avid and FCP have had those for yeeeeaaaaarrrrrsssss...

Also, the stereo 3D features in After Effects CS5.5 are unimpressive. They need to do 3D like the way The Foundry do it in Nuke - eg be able to apply an effect to both the left and the right eye at the same time. What they have done looks more like a cheap script.

That said, I like Adobe products. Just might skip this upgrade, I think.

Native RED EPIC camera support
Edit up to 5K footage shot from RED EPIC™ cameras without transcoding or rewrapping, and access RED parameters directly from the enhanced Source Settings dialog box. The EPIC importer plug-in will be available soon as a download from Adobe labs.

Also cleaner user interface, WELL DONE. i guess they do listen.

fantastic. thanks adobe. i wonder if adobe will have HDR controls built in to it's red plugin?

I agree.

That really pisses me off: if you're from Europe they make you pay 40% more than if you're from the States!!!!That seems to be a trend over there, because it was the same with ProDad's Mercalli.

Go to 8:40, "mercury accelerated red source settings plugin", new color science, curves and histogram! I want to try this now, Save .rmd and open that in scratch. Best red workflow so far.

@Bruce Allen: They show the audio thing first because that was the feature everyone was asking. The same will happen with avid and apple, they will show things that others already have, like the new speech analysis from MC5.5 or maybe GPU acceleration in FCP.

If you are a red centric facility and use adobe products this update is really worth it, including the forthcoming epic importer. Really, i don't care what apple or avid put on the table if they don't let me edit .red natively in its native resolution.

I feel you Bruce its not a super major update. But if you dig deep there are a lot of workflow enhancements

Do I understand it right? Playback with Red Rocket? Would it mean no need for a Nvidia card if I have a RR?

This has been there since CS5! However, the MPE is so fast that it can debayer 4K R3Ds at 1/2 res (2K!) or 1/4 res faster than Rocket at full res on a Core i7 quad/six core CPU. Of course, Rocket helps with the final full res render. Debayering is only done on the CPU or Rocket - the GPU isn't involved, yet.

Jason Levine is such an evangelist. hehehe.

When is it available to buy, anyone know?

some details about RED improvements in CS5.5

some details about RED improvements in CS5.5

I'll be posting more details within the week, but I thought that this might be interesting and useful. It's the content of a card that we're handing out at the Adobe booth at NAB.

RED + Adobe CS5.5—it just works.

Use the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro and supported CUDA cards from NVIDIA to work natively with 4K and 5K files in real-time.

• Import R3D files of any resolution from RED One and Epic cameras into Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects—without transcoding or the need to work with proxy files.

• Adjust playback resolution for real-time playback in Adobe Premiere Pro depending on your system’s specs; always see full resolution frames when you pause.

• Load, adjust, and save custom RMD sidecar files which you can share between Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and RED Cine-X.

• Use the redesigned R3D Source Settings dialog in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to set white points, adjust curves, and view histograms. Also use FLUT controls and new color settings including REDcolor2, and REDgamma2, and REDLogFilm settings.

• Save and apply custom R3D presets and apply presets to multiple clips.

• Get faster decoding and debayering of RED footage thanks to RED Rocket support in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.

I am a big fan of adobe premeire and its RED workflow; it just works, like the previous poster stated. Honestly I expected a bit more from this update. It seems like adobe is tweaking instead of innovating. Im hoping that with the improved gui and tweaks there will be less memory hangups between premeire and encore, as well as more gpu utilization for rendering.
