  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ADOBE PREMIERE 6 --- I HAVE NO WORDS ....

Just installed the proper release of Production Premium and nothing changed for my hardware / situation. I cannot play 1 clip of r3D at 1/4 without dropping frames, OpenCl GPU acceleration still slows down the system and BMD Ultrastudio is not working with 4K timelines via transmit (not an Adobe problem I assume). Oh well I will have to wait for updates.

If the Adobe guys want to know my specs they are: Macbook Pro 2.2GHZ Core i7 17" Early 2011, 16 GB Ram, SSD system disk, AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB, Media on Raid Thunderbolt and BMD US3D thunderbolt.

I uninstalled the previous version and tried installing this new one and it won't install. It just hangs on "Preparing for Install..." Finder shows it's not responding so I force quit. When I try running the installer again nothing happens. I restart the computer and try installing again and get the same thing. Anyone else having trouble?

EDIT: I've been letting it just sit in it's "Not responding" state and it appeared to actually be installing because I noticed the applications start appearing in the Applications folder. I waited as long as I felt was necessary for a proper install (about 30 minutes) and force quit the installer. The apps all report damaged installations when I run them. The Adobe Application Manager also will not run. It says it's damaged and gives a link to install the manager again, which doesn't seem to fix anything. Dead in the water.

I should note that when I tried to uninstall the old version, the Application Manager would not run at first. I had to restart my computer and then run it to get the uninstall to work. How can we rely on a software suite to run properly when the installer doesn't even run properly?

EDIT 2: With some tinkering I located an app in Apps/Utilties/Adobe Application Manager/core called RemoveAAM. After running that and restarting my computer, I was able to run the Adobe CS6 Master Collection alias in the Adobe Installers folder (in Utilities) and uninstall CS6... or at least I think it's uninstalled. Now I'm still concerned that if I try installing again it will still not work properly and I'll get stuck again. Downloading the Production Premium instead since that's all I need. Hopefully that installer is more reliable.

So OpenCL GPU acceleration is going to get much better in the coming weeks. We have been working closely with partners to make sure it is great and improvements are coming.

Cheers

I upgraded from Produciton Premium CS 5 to CS 5.5 a couple weeks ago, it said that I would be able to upgrade to CS 6 Production premium for free, how do I do this? Anyone? Will we get an email at some point with a link to log in and download?

Thanks,
Frazier

Todd, I am very happy that you guys are putting a lot of emphasis on stability. In my opinion, it's where a lot of software companies have made mistakes. They are answering their marketing departments deadlines, and packing in features that aren't quite ready or haven't been fully tested. I see in your OpenCL qualified cards section, there are only a couple listed and you mentioned the approach Adobe is taking. I agree with it 100%. So far CS 6 seems stable for a brand new release, and there are a decent amount of new features in there, but there's also some refinements and that's what is impressing me the most.

Thanks for posting that great explanation of the OpenCL support. I don't know how well this question can be answered, but will OpenCL performance be equal to CUDA performance on the same media and effects that are supported with both? Or if possible are we still better off with CUDA than OpenCL, given the option?

You'll always be comparing apples and oranges here, since you can't compare performance on the same hardware.

I'll just say that performance using OpenCL processing is good, and it should get better over time as we and our partners work on it. Just like CUDA.

Anyone on a Mac have any luck with a GTX470 card for mercury playback? It's a no go for me even with everything updated. Kinda bummed the gtx470 I'snt supported yet because it's a beast of a card...

I tried 3 times to install CS6 Master suite on my Macbook pro (2011 4core/2,3Ghz) with no luck. ( I have CS5.5 Master suite on it installed). It just does not launch. I uninstalled, cleaned with CS6 cleaner, installed again, but it doesn´t work.
David, any ideas how I should install to get it work? Could not find any answers on Adobe FAQ.
Thanks,
Marc

Wasted two GTX 690 cards on CS6 to find out there is no support.

David McGavran or other Adobe guys, any sign of future support for these?

Thanks
Joe
