Hi,

Is anyone using the rather expensive Action Swap Pack? If so what is your experience?

Are there other viable dual battery mount systems out there for Red?

Rob

Hey digitalfx that looks like a great solution and so much cheaper. The inevitable follow up questions:

1. Has anyone tried the Switronix adapter with the Red Batteries and anything I should know?

2. Does the camera still "recognise" the red batteries?

3. Any problems in terms of weight using two reds and this adapter on the Red quickplate and universal mount?

Thanks

Rob

It works fine, except you lose battery status in viewfinder. Also the second battery is mounted backwards so you cant see the battery meter.

It is heavy, but no problem for the mounts.

I will use the Action Products Swap Pack. It only seems to be a expensive solution in the first moment, but it isn´t really, because you don´t need any other items to mount the battery! No quickplate, no universal mount. If you add all that plus the Switronix you will get a rather heavy package at about the same price.

I wish the action swap pack could swivel in x and y axis to make the mounting position more flexible. I will be using the et shockmount so the cradle won't bb neccesary which makes the switchtronix too bulky without a drive being used in the cradle. I guess I could use the quickplate with the switchtronix and the shockmount drive separately.

Norm Li, they told me at AP next generation of Hot Swap Pack will be with swivel options.
Cheers,
marc

(1) Brian, can you comment on this and when the new swivel mounting will be available?

(2) Does the mount have a standard power tap, and, if so, what is the maximum watt rating?

(3) Do you have a gallery of additional photos showing the swap pack in detail as I see only a single photo on the site?

Thanks.

ETA: I did find this thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7918

Marcb you make a good point concerning the actual cost of the Action Swap pack. It is in back in active consideration - particularly given that the camera actually communicates with the batteries.

goffb its your fault that I feel that I now have to ask an offtopic question! Actually, thanks for pointing this out - I did not even notice it on the Action website.

How does the Action Raid mounting solution go for protecting the unit against shock and vibration? It looks like a very simple/elegant solution and much lighter than the massive metal cage structure that comes with the basic production pack.

Rob

I have a feeling that the raidrack isn't a shockmount as well but if so? Please prove me wrong!

No, unfortunately it's not.
Maybe the next generation will be? Brian has some experience with shock absorbing devices... :)

1. It works great.

2. No, however it can be modified to do so. I know Panatech was doing the mods.

3. Can't answer that for you... I don't have my raid drives yet...

1) I'm aiming at a 8-10 week frameline

2) Both Batterie mounts have D-Tap - You can draw what ever your batterie can handle.

3) Working on that - our camera is almost out a lot on rental.

Brian,
Is the swivel option something that can be purchased later and used with the existing swap-pack or is it a new stand alone unit? Also, on the one you have for sale now, can you mount the rod bracket on either end of the battery mount, top and bottom?

Great questions since I've ordered 3 of them LOL
Only that the swivel is there it's the tilt option it's lacking

The way I see it should be possible since the rod "holder" is separate (judging from pics) just basically being a universal mount.

The raid rack is a "solid" connection, just like the RED mount. We're testing an add-on for shock reduction soon.
