  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Action Products Raptor Offer: Only Good Until 3/22

You can just get the heavy springs and take one or two springs out from each chassis to make the arm work for your camera without adding weights. This way, if you need to mount a heavier camera, you can just add springs.

I am still trying to to decide which springs i ultimately need. right now my epic 9 kilos without a lens... Seems like I probably need the heavy springs but would be good to know where the buttom of that range is so im not constantly adding extra wieghts to get it balanced.

Any word on minimum weight load on both 28lb and 35lb arm? Thanks in advance.

I just got an update from ActionProducts on this.... Going off the details on how these spring packages work, as I stated in the post above, below are the full functional ranges for the spring packages.
  • Standard Spring Packages (28lbs) = 8lbs. - 28lbs
  • Heavy Duty Spring Packages (35lbs) = 14lbs. - 35lbs
You will have to add weight to the sled if you want to go lower than the specified weight above.

Thats the weight of the whole gimbal + camera etc on the arm and not just the camera?

Yes that is correct. Whole sled + camera + all mounted accessories. Anything that the arm has to support.

Guys go for the heavy set up, any Epic or scatlet + lens control ff+ wireless video+ mattebox + lens +battery(s)can easilly be 14lb, and that is a light steadicam load.
Also heavier loads fly much better than light or super light loads. GO for heavier springs. You wont regret it and you will always have a little extra lift..

the camera and accessories can be way more than this.
Calculate and you ll see.
add camera_various size lenses+motor(s)+ mattebox+ battey(s) + monitor
on an Epic thats way more that 5lbs.
I think its wise to go heavy and you will also improove the performance with more weight of camera and accessories. I think the light set is for way simpler and lighter setups, like cage+dslr , lightweight HD CAMERAS, or c300 style cams.
its only 80 $ more. so no big deal/.

Yeah - I would say go with the heavy springs, for sure. Even a DSLR with lens, mattebox, follow focus, rails, etc should hit the minimum. Maybe you'd need a small weight plate on the stage or a small weight at the bottom of the sled.

when do people have to decide about what springs and mounts for there purchase?

ActionProducts is going to take all this in specific steps in effort to keep this process as simple as possible for everyone.

The steps from this point are....
  1. After the end of day today, get a FINAL count of everyone opted in.
  2. Everyone that has opted in will be contacted directly from Daryl Goff from ActionProducts with a method of requesting the 20% down payment.
  3. Once Daryl has received the down payment, he will get all the details from each person on what customizations and options you would like to have for your individual rig.
  4. Afterwards, a final balance invoice will be made for each person individually taking into account your 20% credit and all customizations.
  5. Everyone will be updated regularly with the details of the production process of their rig.
  6. Once the rigs are getting close to being ready to ship, each person will be contacted individually requesting the final balance of their invoice.
  7. Once the full balance is paid, and rig is finished, the rig will be shipped to you and it will be ready to fly right out of the box.
  8. Enjoy :cheers2:

Could you post a complete list of possible customizations/options? Are power cord and springs the only custom/optional elements?
Thanks.

Sounds like a good plan!

Awesome, Thanks Justin.

I would say so too. A minimal outfitted EpicX or ScarletX with 1kg lens is very soon at 14lbs. Now add the sled (4 lbs?) and the balancing weight (depends on the length, but normally around 1/3- 1/2 from the weight on the top), done with monitor, battery and counterweights. So in total for a basic setup around 22-24lbs. This would be more the comfort zone for the stronger springs (14-35).
You will not need the 8-28lbs springs, unless you want to fly a DSLR or a very light video cam.
Please, feel free to join in with your math if I´m wrong here, and give the right numbers.

As a steadi op (local 600) you will absolutely want the heavier springs, unless you are DSLR or BMCC only. On some live shows my G50 arm almost bottoms out- That's with the small optimo zoom, motors, wireless video, batteries (2-3 depending) comtec etc. etc. The g50 has a 50 lb capacity.

ActionProducts is currently organizing a complete list of these. We will not have these until early next week. I am sorry for the delay with this. I promise there will be plenty of time for you to make the changes you want.

How much do sled, arm and vest each weight?

The Proline are

The Arm weighs 2kg 800g, the Sled weighs almost 4kg, the Vest is 3kg.

I imagine the Rapyor is less?

I have owned a AP Rebel Pro for about 4 years. I have loved it. I have gone to Nab Every year for 6 years and tried on all the rigs available. Every time I go I cannot find any reason to "upgrade" to a more expensive system. I have never been let down by my Rig. It will do as much weight as any other professional "Steadicam" and is easy to upgrade. The quality of machining is above par and the way the system is put together is awesome.
I haven't read this whole thread but I am actually considering ordering this little rig just to have something that is a lighter option for small camera set ups. I will say that the 35 lb springs are the only option... you will never have a lack of gear to strap to a steadicam... Some audio guy will always come toward you with a set of audio hops and xlr cables that will put you right over your threshold. The 35 lbs is really close for any eng live show.
But that said, the Raptor looks like a great piece of gear for a reasonable price...

You might want to get in on the special price that cuts off at midnight tonight :)

I hope the heavy duty springs will be the "standard" option (included in the price hehe)... Looks like no one wants the smaller ones :P
