I guess this is for all those red users who have the excellent Action Products 15mm LWS audio rod mount and who want to install the new front fan module.

I have received both the top and front fan modules and installed the top one. However, it is very clear that the front fan will not fit with the Action Products 15mm LWS audio rod mount. This is kind of pretty disruptive for the entire set up. If you install the front fan then you cant use your follow focus, matte box etc

I have written to Action Products several times about whether they are providing some solution to this but without a response. It would be nice to have a response. I think that they need to be right on to this to support customers who have purchased their stuff. It would only take a relatively minor adjustment to the LW rod mount and all would be well.

Hi Rob

I'm waiting for the Fans, so I can get to work on the modifications - so yes, we will offer some solution to this problem.

Regards
Brian

Thanks Justin.

That information is what I needed to know and now I can relax about it. My obsessive brain was starting to consider all sorts of elaborate plans including to try and get a machinest to modify the current one, using a 19mm to 15mm bridge plate adapter etc For the present I will live with just the top fan.

The Action Product's solution of moving the audio to full XLR plugs to the back of the Epic is by far the best out there.

Cheers

Why on earth do you want to use a bad front fan? It's noisier than the original one and not more effective. I wouldn't bother trying change a great working configuration for that specific fan.

biggest issue with Action Products is the wait time on things like this. Sorry to say it Justin, Brian...But brian your a DP and when we need something you dont want to wait 2 weeks then another 2 weeks. Simply Unexceptable.

Sergio so far the consensus seems to be that NEW front fan can be skipped because it's not really better. The top fan is though. So if I were you, I'd use the awesome Action Products 15mm audio and skip the new front fan altogether.

I can't tell if the front fan is better cause they changed all the fan settings. It is quieter now under adaptive and Quiet Record...but that might be the case too if I put back in the old fan. Anyhow, I rather use the upgrade if Red believes it's an improvement since it wasn't all that expensive but waiting for Action Products to upgrade is insane.

It's not like their building the Meisner Module or something with electronics in it like a Movi. Cut some metal and extend the back (with some longer screws) and hopefully you have something. Or 'tell it like it is' and say there is no plans to update it (as it was not part of the original design and can't be modified). Either way, some communication would be helpful. Why buy any of their products again if this is their response...or lack of.

Any updates on this?

Still no update, huh.

Wil, your post makes sense.

Pat

First of all I would like to apologize greatly that you all have been waiting for a response so long.

Both Daryl and I were not aware of this threads existence until this moment
.

I see Brian posted on it a while back. He has been on back to back shoots and traveling a lot, so that is why he has not been posting updates on this.

UPDATE:
  1. Modified TopPlate will be officially available next week. (this plate will work with both before and after upgraded fan)
    • There is a large back order on this TopPlate due to demand increase and design transition lead time from the old to new.
  2. There is no update on the new 15mm RodMount: Daryl will provide a more detailed update soon, but ActionProducts is still waiting on the new fan upgrade from RED to be able to design and test this. We are very sorry for this but they are waiting on RED and there is not much they can do about it.
Daryl should be posting a follow up soon with more detail directly. I hope this helps in the mean time.

The 15mm RodMount Audio (new front fan compatible) is now available.

FYI,

at the top of the thread, there is a thing called thread tools. There, you can subscribe to the thread., This means that whenever it's updated you will get a notification and not miss the discussion about your products.
