  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ACES IDT for Dragon

Will this SDK affect any MX images ingesting in to resolve ?

It shouldn't directly affect anything. What it will do is allow for 3rd parties to properly derive linear light and linear light + ACES image data.

ANY info about GPU acceleration on SDK ?... we can't wait to use GPU acceleration in Resolve ( or any 3rd party system) for R3D...

thanks

I think that GPU hand-off will prove to be a bigger challange than one might anticipate. We might need more cards, with the ability to allocate specific ones.

Hey All,

this is is such a great post. I learned a lot. Thank you!

I was wondering now that Resolve 10.2.3 has been released, including GPU support, if the ACES issues has been solved? Does Resolve now read the accurate linear mapping from RED?

I was also wondering if it is possible to export ACES compatible EXR files from Adobe After Effects using the RED interpretation panel in AE. We do all of our VFX work in AE and I would like to be able to export VFX files that will match the R3D files we import directly into Resolve. I understand that I could probably export ACES EXR from Redcine X, import those into AE, do all the VFX work and then export another EXR but it would be rather nice if we wouldn't have to create this intermediate step.

If so would we need to set a different IDT for the original R3D files vs. the ACES EXR files or would both use the Red setting?

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Thanks,

Philipp

if i have understood graeme correctly, you can test the aces implementation through exporting an aces exr from rcx and ab it with the aces setting in resolve. if they are identical, resolve now implements it correctly

Did a quick test today and the images didn't look similar at all. However, while I had the IDT for the R3D files set to red I wasn't sure what IDT I had to set the Redcine-X exported EXR ACES files too. Red as well? Or one of the other profiles? I think it actually looked closest when I set no IDT profile for the EXR files at all.
