  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A taste...

There is no way Red One will be discontinued. It has just started and it is getting better and better every week, like good wine.

I think the key announcement will be in area of breakthrough technology allowing high dynamic range, perhaps 14+ stops.

Also, a shocker would be for Epic to offer 200 fps at full 5k resolution. Expect some exciting improvements in RedCode offering variety of compression ratios and frame rates.

My bet is:

1. Red One price hike to $25k - still a bargain
2. Epic price $40k
3. Scarlet and DSMC merged, $3k-$5k, - offered with a choice of still and PL mounts.

The new render is right hand side of Epic, of course.

Correct me if I am wrong, Jim.

My guess:

Scarlet and the DSMC are now one and the same (at least the base model): at least 2k video resolution and 10mp still image, interchangeable lenses that feature autofocus and it will retail for $1999 base model.

Sorry... we just might disappoint someone. Nothing high MP and high frame rate (above 25fps) will sell for under $2K from RED. We have lots of surprises, but consumer pricing is not one of them. We are making professional systems here.

With what lens set?

1. I don't think pricing is the break through on the 13th because it's priced way below the competition.

2. I think 200 or more frame rates are in the works (Please say I'm right)

3. Epic possibly got a little smaller.

4. Scarlet still has a fixed lens.

5. Red One is in for an upgrade and not leaving anytime soon.

6. For sure a couple of stops have been added.

7. RC50 will be released on the 13th (Sorry had to throw that one in there)

8. Call of Duty 5 is released the day before!!! YAY!!

More A B C's...

Well Scarlet was 3k for $3k with a lens built in, $3k even included the battery. I'd think at a minimum the price wouldn't go up. If you could hold at $3k and include DSMC capabilities, still do 100fps 3k and include the lens and battery like Scarlet was going to, well then you'd have a ton of happy people.

Personally, I'm still VERY content with my Red :-), though, I am greatly looking forward to something small that I can renegade shots with

alive again, sorry for the interruption. Carry on :)

please, beer and routers don't mix :)

Actually the beer and the routers mixed just well thank you very much... when I added the poutine to the mix, thats when everything fell apart :)

Screw it I give up... It's real....it's a render....:angry01: Is it the 13th yet?

Why!:ranting2: lol Noooooo....... :)

Why not? Current Red users would love it, the resale value would jump up. Who wanted one got one by now. Red One would still be a bargain at $50k, so why not to hike the price?

Hmmmm, Jim corrected Shawn's guess, he didn't correct mine. I think there may be something to it.

Jarred, can you add more poutine to the mix and do another render, please?

More A B C's...

Jim

I can only see A and B. Wider angle please.

What is that thing on the left, Jim? Looks interesting.

Jim, any chance early Scarlet and Epic preorders will get a Titanium S or E ?

Jim, do you do these renders? What are they being done in? Some future Red Renderer to be built into the Epic for real-time virtual sets - how's that for pushing the crazy speculation.

These small bits and pieces are driving me nuts! I've just spent the last 30 minutes analyzing the new images (and cursing at my monitor), randomly trying to guess URL paths to other uploaded images (found a duplicate of the ports image, a little lighter gray), and now I must find something distracting to take my mind off this stuff, else i'll never get to sleep.

I don't know if i'm going to make it till Thursday, especially being constantly reminded of the impending announcement as I spend 4 days shooting on red in a cleanroom (with no internet access). Curses!

it might be..

it might be..

a rig, as the filename says. more interesting for me is the reflection on it, which sort of shows the 'hidden' side of the camera.. is it?

Not sure what this means...

1. Pleeeease make sure that on the 13th we'll get to see not only isometric renders, but some in real perspective! And maybe side by side with Red One for comparison.

2. There will be a lot of disappointed people. Not because you don't deliver, but because all this teasing creates some insane speculations in terms of features and pricing. Just sayin'.
