  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A taste...

This one, I'm convinced, is the front with the ramped area intended to go below a mountable lens and rods sliding into it.

I agree with Sanjan that the logo would read front to back, so what we are looking at is the left front of the camera. Since the button clearly says "Scarlet" then, to me, this means (if I'm right) that Scarlet no longer has a fixed lens.

Exciting times!

Thom,

I think this is the rear of the camera/drive we are seeing, because those are clearly Lemo ports.

You guys are having so much fun I should post another tomorrow...

Jim

I'm pretty sure you're having fun with it too. :) Jim I just have to say, every time you post (yes I check them), you can tell that you love what you do. Good for you man. Long live RED.

I think we should all be asking ourselves:

"What is the purpose of the camera?"

This is what dictates and influences design... the purpose of the product. This camera, from what I can gather is going to be primarily used as both a highres digital stills camera and a 3+k digital camera. Handheld size, light and efficient.

My guess is that this obscure image we are all looking at is simply a piece of the cover for the camera body, whether it be the side, back, top, bottom etc.

What is the footprint and size of this new Scarlet beast? Will it be like a standard DSLR, Sony EX1, or perhaps in between, like a Hasselblad medium format camera. I believe the design should lend itself to both worlds of video and still. Something like a Hasselblad design would do this very well. Large screen for viewing video and images, and it would have to be held with two hands.

Something to think about...

We need another picture to dissect; the last one has run its course.

New pic, new pic, new pic, new pic, new pic.... x 10000

p.s. please!

I assumed I was an old man....
-Had my first camera in 1953
-been around
--Palo Alto Xerox (PARC)
--Apple Lisa
--Amiga
--SoftImage
but you make me realise I am still young, very young
-I am waiting on November 13 like a 2 year old kid waiting for Santa to come down the chimney.

Thanks, Jim, even if it is only for that feeling.

But I know I can expect more, much more.

Anyone notice the perspective seems to be off a bit with that image? And centering?

See below...

EDIT:
Oops, I see that J Clark had mentioned similar findings a couple pages back.

It looks to me like it is a 3d projector / camera. Pretty cool if it was.

I don't think it's a camera, it's just RED saying, "We're getting rid of the alphabet, it's going out the back exit, all we have to do is press the red button."

I haven't read all of the replies here, but expanding on my previous guess...

Could this be a SCARLET docking / charging station with built in Drive?

The idea is that the bottom cube of SCARLET which houses CF cards (dual 16GB?) plus rechargeable battery is modular and can detach. This would allow you to have multiple media / battery modules and just swap them out as necessary. Or you could just dock the entire SCARLET on the charging / media station.

I know... nice ascii. :-)
