  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A taste...

Scarlet is sitting on top. Scarlet has connections bottom back.

Jarred, a contest would be a blast! we already have some fun ideas so we need to get going right away! A FREE Scarlet maybe...? or the winner gets to see the big secret the day before everybody else, in person... for whatever that's worth. Bragging rights maybe.

or maybe you just cobbled together the 3D version of the tinker toy camera and those holes in the back are to cable them together for synching...
 
modular for scarlet and epic makes a huge amount of sense, upgrading red one will involve sending the camera back , taking out the parts and replacing them, thats a lot of work. if epic and scarlet are modular all red have to do is offer the latest module and we'll be able up upgrade it ourselves, might also give us options when it comes to new ports and technologys , maybe you want a new sensor but are happy with the ports you have , maybe you want an block with an optical port

you wouldn't have to dump your entire investment just to get a few new things and the firmware will be updated on an ongoing basis to improve the software. its the best of both worlds if thats what it is.
 
I am secretly hoping that scarlet is 4k with pl mount and comes with a mass produced high quality zoom lens for under 5k , that maybe just fantasy , but we can dream, if RED can sell 50,000 of them then economies of scale should allow them to produce the high quality lens for lower price

I keep looking at it, I give up, I don't know what we're looking at....
But I will hazard a guess and I'm probably completely wrong.

I'm going to say it's some kind of charger / docking station for the Scarlet. What if Scarlet does not require external media, but has an internal SSD or FLASH media module? Go shoot, up to 3 or so hours worth, then dock the camera to recharge and offload your footage...

BINGO! This has been my suspicion for a while now.

Modules would include:
-Lens module - mount of your choice or all in one lens for Scarlet
-Sensor module - 3K to ?K - what can you afford?
-Image processing module - compressed RAW, uncompressed, HD, SD, RGB, Quicktime, whatever.
-Recording module - CF, hard drive, flash, firewire, streaming
-Output module - how many outputs do you want? different data on different outs? Resolution?
-Viewing module - EVF, LCD, Optical, retinal implants?
-Control module - full manual, idiot-proof auto, external computer controls, hacker's open-source version. Wireless, wired, bluetooth, infrared, thought-controlled. Touchscreen, iPhone, timelapse, motion sensing, etc.

(Optional: Accounting module - invoicing, time tracking, stock sales, banking)
 
First of all I'll say that I spent too much time trying to solve this puzzle - no laughing please. Second, we were stumped when we tried to model the bottom piece, because as we found, there is a lot of asymmetry here and it was actually not possible to build it in 3D. True, and we know 3D. From these images you can see the issue we ran into. Again, I'm aware this is obsessive, but it was a fun little break from reality... Humor me.:blink:​

Extreme 3D nerd stuff to follow... a) clearly describes the asymmetry of the shape, so we assumed the grooves are actually angling off to one side(far side) and near the far edge at Z, but when we modeled this, we found that where the groove lines meet the inset b) does not make sense, because if the sides are vertical as we think, then the intersection at Y would be sloped inward to begin the inset, yet this does not appear to happen, and it was not possible to model this shape as you can see in our model. The only explanation we could come up for what appears to be an inset is a just weird reflection, but again, it's clearly a physical inset, because it meets up at X as a vertical intersection. Anyway, it has us baffled and feeling very insecure with our 3D deciphering...

We have no idea what C might be because it's clearly an asymmetrical design element, which is a break from Red design thus far. In Summary, we are obsessed with the new camera and want answers! Although we too have surmised that all of the new cameras are based on a unified modular system.

Okay, for me, this is definitely the back of Scarlet and/or Epic. Not the side, the camera joystick would be on the back. Since he posted this also on Scarlet user, I would think then this is Scarlet.

This one, I'm convinced, is the front with the ramped area intended to go below a mountable lens and rods sliding into it.

I agree with Sanjan that the logo would read front to back, so what we are looking at is the left front of the camera. Since the button clearly says "Scarlet" then, to me, this means (if I'm right) that Scarlet no longer has a fixed lens.

the Build-a-Bear camera...the logical end to crippleware.

they could have RED stores in every mall in the nation...

where you walk in and build your camera on-site.

with little things around the cashier counter that you'll want to grab at the last minute, before you pay (extra flash cards, padded LCD jackets, bogen nanoclamps...). things that your kid can reach for, grab, and throw in the cart when you're looking the other way....

oh, yeah!
