Hi,

What I see from various pictures of WEAPON coming in now that DRAGON is engraved on the SSD module, near the FAN and only a Skull pic is there on the right hand side
of the camera.
I am not sure where they are engraving the word Weapon.

So I have a question here.

How do we market this camera as a new camera as a rental company to recover the upgrade cost when it is still branded as a DRAGON which we are already renting?
You may say okay it still have a DRAGON sensor so it is branded as DRAGON.

But if you think from rental house point of view then we will not get any additional rental if it is still a DRAGON....though there may be internal or external changes
to body...

Your thoughts on this...

As long as you market rentals to professionals they should know what Weapon is. If they don't they might want to catch up on top gear camera equipment. Red cameras aren't some mid range DSLR that's lost in an oversaturated market of prosumer gear. As a professional, people should know what options there are for making a movie, otherwise they do not make a professional decision when a producer or director asks them what gear would work best for their production.

Best thing to do is that whenever there's a new high end camera or gear that's arrived at the rental house, invite the top production companies and DOP's to look at your new lineup. That way you can show them what's new and how weapon differs from epic dragon.

IS it

IS it

Hi,

Is it DRAGON WEAPON written on the body anywhere?

Dragon is the sensor technology within the camera. As with all modern RED camera bodies the body/name designation can be found on the medallion on the front of the camera brain.

If you recall there was no change on the side panel for Scarlet or Epic to inform you if you were shooting on one or the other. Though there is a brain color difference. When Dragon Epic and Scarlet bodies were released there was also an updated DSMC Side Module with the Dragon engraving to help "identify" if you were shooting with a Mysterium-X or Dragon sensor as the camera brains were exactly the same form factor.

All of those bodies can be identified by the medallion.

Odds are, down the line a few years from now, when RED releases a new sensor tech that SSD Port will receive an updated engraving for whatever the next thing is called.

In my experience many very professional and hard-working DoP's making high-end images for expensive productions, simply don't have time to navigate an ever expanding pro-camera plethora.
I think that has been one of Alexas forces, actually, that "No mater which u choose, it's basically still an Alexa like you know it"

Which of course isn't true, but brings a lot to the table of perception of easiness of handling.

Actually "it's a Dragon, just a lot easier to handle and it records prores" could be a pretty good sell...

Hi,
I think it would have been a lot better had they marked the side SSD module as WEAPON now...

Just put a higher rental price and the words Weapon next to it and i'm sure you'll be ok ;)

It is not so easy in this part of the world.....

To be, I'm very happy that this camera has almost no "Weapon" on it (I'm talking about the Stealth version which is marked in black on black).

Having a camera called Weapon could be quite hard to take with us during flights and travels.

Seems strange that anybody willing to buy/rent an expensive piece of tech wouldn't go online and research first.
Even when I was a kid, I would pick up a GamePro magazine and read reviews before buying/renting a video game. And that's before u could simply google something and get thousands of reviews.

Do people actually walk into high end camera rental houses and say, "Hmm, what's this RED thing? Okay, gimme some of those module things that go with it and I'll give you a bunch of money."

I guess you guys never worked in a rental facility...

I get what you are saying Harcharan.

Maybe an inexpensive bag to send the camera out in with "RED Weapon series camera on board" or some other silly saying printed on it. The brand name seems to have achieved acceptance so I think your customers would not be hesitant to display such a bag.

Why would there be a premium on the 6k Dragon Weapon? The 8k yes.

the weight reduction
proxys
added performance
wireless stuff
i mean i can go on, its clearly not an epic…its better hence term "upgrade"

I think we are on the same platform than others......If the camera is mainly branded as DRAGON...I am talking about the branding guys...
then we have to give lot of explantions to make the guy who is renting that it is a new camera...and if a simple SSD module is branded
with WEAPON instead of DRAGON it makes life easier for rental companies.....

Thanks

Harcharan
