Filed under, "How to SERIOUSLY piss off every other Red One owner within a 500 mile radius."

After looking into these scary-low rates I noticed the REDOne here in Vancouver that is listed at $350/day is (from the pacific northwest) US funds (not that makes it really any better) but day rates for long term aren't calculated in the traditional 3 day week charge. Seems they may be listing in a number of cities in Canada and the US and it's not necessairily in town.
I contacted the user that posted for $299/day just to clarify what that actually includes. Not that he/she has to respond to me, but I'd like to know "what's the catch"?!

i guess the time where a roi in 10 weeks are slowly over.
--------
and you dont know how many reds this guy has.
maybe 6...and maybe his is renting out 2 really cheap to break the neck of the owners who just thought owning and renting out a red is enough.

know some guy who bought 3 reds and lenses with a loan with the idea just to rent everything to others...

someone big broke his neck by offering in his area everything for really cheap.
that dude is broke and sold his stuff to that bigger dude.

The funny thing about all this kvetching from Vancouver about people cutting their prices, is that Vancouver's entire production structure is based on beating the prices from LA and encouraging runaway production from the US. Live by the sword, die by the sword...

Its not like we have a much choice. in the last two years I've taken less pay to work on Canadian stuff. I don't feel we have a real film industry for that very reason. But this also brought up endlessly too, that LA is shot out, costs are too high, [not just against Canadian dollar but locations around the US.]difficult to get people to allow say gunfire at midnight etc. on their streets. And how about Australia etc? star wars was made there not in Vancouver.
And right now the productions your talking about are not affected. As i stated there is one company that has a lock on the high end shows here in Vancouver for RED. There gear is insane all Cooke s4 lens, they do all transfers etc and they charge full price for this. Its ironically only local stuff that's getting the deal, or loss depend if your renting or renter.
At first there was attempt to keep price point and help one another but that went away very quickly and now its dog eat dog for pricing.

But i stand by the point I made. That this price drop will be universal as camera concentration goes up and the volume needed does not match.
Just cause you have the camera doesn't solve all the issues, and RED camera rentals all have horror stories so that doesn't encourage the renters. As work flow and this other issues are addressed the ease of use will be there but so will the large number of cameras. IF the shipping of units gets faster you will see productions buy cameras rather then rent them and sell them off a the end as well.

The next link in the chain is digital projection and 3d projection. Maybe great method of showing work will add to the volume needed?
And if everyone is watching on there Iphone do we really need this high rez?

Totally random out of the blue thought:

With the RED One camera body costing something close to a Digibeta/XDCam/low-cost HDCam body, shouldn't it's rental price reflect this?

I see rental prices of basic kits over here at £350 ($550ish - body, production pack, 18-50 lens, drive and cards) without operator and to me that doesn't seem cheap - to me that is reflecting the RED One price point to buy.

Also, doesn't a low rental rate go hand in hand with the RED philosophy of high quality at a low cost?

Hi,

That's very true but many early adopters were expecting to me millionaires within a few months. The reality of the rental camera business is slowly hitting home.

Fake listing

Fake listing

Hi, Guys, can someone forward me the link to this ad? Because the package listed here, whoever posted it, is my package, and the Oconnor head and dolly is my friend's. I know this is because it is the exact wording and format (I am talking about literally copy and paste) how I send my equipment list to prospect clients (also I have an ad with the same list posted on cineworks' website) . This ad is fake as I am sure no one here in Vancouver would have EXACTLY the same package, and by the way I rent my package out for $1200 CAD a day without the dolly and Oconnor head.
I've just saw this post and went on to craigslists but was unable to find the listing, but if the listing is still there, I have to warn whoever is in vancouver that this listing is extermely fishy, unless he has the exact same package as I do and just too busy typing up the list himself that he has to copy and paste my list.

Sincerely
