ok so you may just want to go get a Panasonic Gh1 to shoot with your red..and get the hack...WOW...the image now holds with a RED at 1080p for the first time in a small DSLR.

VERY VERY clean and high resolution, remember the Panasonic is scaling down from a 4k frame for it's 1080p not line skipping. nuff said, check it out.

I've been very impressed with the video samples from hacked versions. Easily the best video out of a DSLR yet.
GH-1 is so easy to adapt for different lens mounts too and the EVF is a big plus in my book.

The DSLRs are not for me, though GH1 (technically not a DSLR) with the hacked firmware is very impressive indeed. For the price, it is a great camera. As long as you are finishing at 1080p, sure, you can use it as a B-camera for close-ups, etc.

However, it still only resolves to about 1.5K for the AVCHD "C" mode and 1.3K or so for the MJPEG. And this...

... is pure speculation. It is probably not line skipping - that is true - as the aliasing and blinding issues are virtually non-existent compared to the Canons. However, to say the DSLR is reading 4K 30 times a second and then scaling down to 1080p is very, very questionable indeed, and there's very little evidence to corroborate this claim. (The resolution charts at DVXuser clearly show it isn't "absolute" HD). It is doing something to get 1080p, perhaps only the Panasonic engineers know for sure. It is probably not line-skipping, and it is probably not 4K supersampling. Who knows what it is? Anyway, I think this topic belongs more to DVXuser.

Just look at it from a creative point of view. I can now USE a DSLR with my RED, before I could not.

B cam?
Crash Cam?
heli cam?
car mount cam?

list goes on and on

This is news to me... a link to more info?

Am I understanding that this records to the .R3D codec?

things are hauling ass in the camera world...

Might be a good time to just chill for a year.. rather than buy a new system...
I still have my mx'd red which is paid for.. so im good to go..

If this was not a problem almost 100 years ago...

...why now? ;-)

So, now the question is Canon T2i or Panasonic Gh1

Which one is better as a B camera to the R1--- Canon T2i or Panasonic Gh1.

When you pull the rug from under the feet of Canon's, Panasonic's and SONY's so-called "product road map" like RED did (let alone Panavision's, Arri's, Aaton's, SI's, et al on the other "higher" end; with the notable exception of Vision Research), then you'll have a fight that'll see no end. It'll be a hyper-accelerated roadmap mustering technology that is still not ready for prime time. Just like RED has done so far. The market has been proven to be receptive and take it, rolling with the punches. The victor will be the one who strikes a balance of hi-performance, ease of use and low cost.

All bets are off, any which way you look at it. As far as I am concerned, RED *still* has the lead.

For how long? Who knows... but my money is still on RED.

Mmmm, I dunno. I know you can't tell much on vimeo but these shot of logs here exhibit a fair bit of venetian blind effect.

Can you say "line skipping"? Nice try.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It's small and looks great for the money. But what if you want something that's small and just looks great? (answer: Scarlet)
