  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A New Case Design

Yup, Jason is the man!!! I beta tested his custom case website at NAB so I feel I have a HUGE role in the development of this business lol kidding ;-)

Seriously though, if/ when I am buying another case for my gear it will be this as it's by far the best solution out there!

Another awesome product Jason developed because of my refusal to buy a $4,500 Easyrig is Jason's own design the Zero G rig. I have worked with him from the very beginning on developing a system similar to the Easyrig for 1/3 of the price. The design is pretty much complete and I find it to be a great affordable alternative to the Easyrig. Once it gets 100% finished I will post a full review in a separate thread ;-)

PLACEHOLDER FOR NOW...WILL POST A FEW PICS LATER.

Jason and I met in the most happenstance manner...actually, I stopped believing in coincidence a bit ago. Everything happens for a reason.

Anyway, I tend to research things incessantly before making a firm decision, and that is especially true when it comes to gear purchases (like every other person on this forum). So when I was looking for a 1510 Pelican solution to house, and transport, my new EPIC gear I knew it had to fulfill several parameters. I wanted to cram the case with as much as possible, taking TSA considerations for carry-on luggage into account, too.

With my pedantic approach in mind, I wanted a custom, laser-cut insert for the components I actually own. And I really wanted a solution that would let me move items around, and let me figure out the best case configuration for me -- visually. Oh and aesthetically, like the gear the case houses, the install had to be clean. Of course, that's of lesser importance, but there's no accounting for style. :)

As chance would have it, Jason has a created a template-based, web interface that allows us to design custom cases in a one-off manufacturing approach. By choosing from several placeable icons which represent RED kit, we have the flexibility to customize Pelicans based on the gear we actually own. Basically, it is a turnkey stab at the custom laser-cut foam market.

This means the cases are as modular, and individual, as the operator and the cams we own. We are free to build them to reflect our own personal usage, and style. Adorn them, or keep them simple without labels. It is a really elegant solution to a problem, and it was that moment that makes you question, "Why hasn't someone done this yet?" Well, now someone has. The execution and product are top-notch, and Jason's personal approach to my endless questions was awesome. I have since gotten to know Jason a bit, and he is indeed a bright guy; very resourceful. I think we covered every concern imaginable in the layout of a case (warranted and not - haha) .

As such, though some of my compartments are labeled for a specific usage, they actually have dual purpose in mind and can simply act as spaces for other AKS when necessary.

All in all, I'm really pleased with the case, and plan to order others for all the incoming EPICs. Seriously. :) This is cliché but the statement is genuine: I cannot recommend the case/approach highly enough.

BEAST MODE!

And Jason, looks like I might own one of the first cases. I feel really fortunate. Thanks for letting me in on your secret, and trusting me to keep my mouth shut. :)

How customizable will these cases be? I'm a bit of a freak for organization, and these cases look absolutely great. The only thing that's kept me from ordering cases in the past - either from RED, CinemaOxide, or others - is that I either don't have everything there are spaces for, or I have more of certain items than the cases can fit.

Same here. I didn't want to pay for an insert that didn't match the gear, or methods I would be employing. Jason has the solution you've been looking for. The case is bad ass and it should be because I designed it to fit me. ;)

I have received nothing but compliments every time I have opened it in front of other filmmakers. Looks like now I can forward others to the source.

I love the cases, if we buy them will be able to choose the fom color? I think I'd prefer just standard black over designs.
