  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A milo / epic project we did this sping.

Awesome. Even being familiar with all the techniques used, this is still amazing to watch.

If I won the lottery, my first purchase would be an Epic Dragon with all the accessories I'm missing. My second purchase would be a Milo.

Then maybe I'd worry about a place to store/use both of them. God I love moco . . .

I used mostly small non lit greenscreens like 240x180cm boards to stick "in between layers" and then we also had some big 6x6m green screen cloth that we used to cover bigger things. But we did not alter the light at all to improve it so in then end as always there was a lot of root work that had to be done. In retrospect I think less chroma should have been used, and I should probably saved my self some a good chunk of change if I sent all the clips off to a remote roto place as we had so uch to mask out. I always aim to keep things inhouse but some times it's actually bette to send of stuff and have it done quicker for less money in some part of the world where taxes and salaries are not as astronomical :)

With the milo it always possible to shot clean passes which helps as we then can use different matting and such. So it makes things a bit different than shooting with moving camera thats not repeatable.

Thank you.

Great work.

What lenses did you use ?

It was all shoot on our favorite anamorphic hawk C 35mm.

The behind the scenes where a few canon and nikon SLR's for shooting timlapses and also a scarlet using the rest of the hawk c set and a little gopro. The gopro is great with it's time-lapse 4k function and iphone app also nice to mount on the rig and such. Will buy more of those for future BTS's.

Really think it's time for red to release a similar app for the epic.

we also had an alexa studio with coke s4's for shooting some bumpers/trailers.

Very nice! You've must have had a gazillion layers in this project  How many hours went it to shooting that piece?

As I remember we had 3 rigging days. (before that we did an animatic, VR programing for the milo for 5 days) Then as there were kids in the film we could only shoot normal working days as the kids where not allowed to do long hours. and I think we shot for 4 days. So total on set was 7 days. But we did 2 fils. i think we had 5 days in the budget for doing 1 and then we added 2 for the second film.

Now the web page got updated. Worth watching is the animatic. Quite fun to see how accurate it was, even though it was made before we even had seen the studio and that we got 2 days of doing changes to the camera move on set. Pretty much all remained from the original move made in our propietary 3DSMax - Moco plugin.
