  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A little Nikon Love....

Jarred, you made my day!

I'm waiting with my mouse ready to fire an order. :-)

No seriously, if I we get that somewhere between now and summer, it would be fantastic.

If you took away everything that is great about the DSMC program.. and only left the fact that you can change between Canon, Nikon, PL, PV, RM and Leica-M mounts in less than a minute and use all the random optical jewels from various companies from the past, present and future.. it would still be quite revolutionary. A Glass lover's dream come true. And the majority of those mounts being electronic? Icing on the cake.

Jarred, I could not agree more. I think RED has made an extraordinary change by allowing exchangeable mounts. I think it wouldn't be possible to come up with a lens mount that is a camera housing at the same time: one that would allow the gem of the gems: the Nikon Nikonos submersible lenses to be mounted on digital cinema camera.

But Nikon G glass has been my favourite for landscape cinematography and RED Nikon mount is just another dream come true. I can't wait to have one...or two :)

You actually have Leica R mount lenses? :-)

Jim

Yes, but by your question, I'm starting to feel, you think it's a bad idea:)
I began collecting this year, longer focus throw, all sizes fit the current Epic, I've been told Leica M wides don't clear Epic in its current state

That looks real nice.

I don't really see the need for a dedicated Leica R mount as they are fairly trivial to use with the EF Mount using inexpensive adapters.

That was my dream when I did "reverse engineering" on my R1 with IMS, than lost waranty.

But now with Epic/Scarlet seems to me the things are moving in a right direction if you want to use many different lenses.

I'll start using Leica M and Leica R simultaneously and will show here because my Scarlet is coming soon...

And I was beginning to think the Nikon mount was a scam. '-)

Wow the dampening of the iris is a big advantage to the Nikon glass as its in Doco modes that this glass really shines. Could this dampening ever be applied to controlling the Canon motors or are the Canon lens iris motors incapable of this?

I know it's hard for you Nikon lens guys out there to watch all the Canon guys having all the fun...

Well, they (Nikon guys) had all the fun for years with RED ONE, so I see this as a little "equalizer"... Hehehehehe

That does not mean I will not order the Nikon mount when it becomes available...

For now I will settle for a smooth manual focus mapping to the zoom rocker and/or the wheel for the Canon mount...

Every Canon lens reacts a bit differently... the motors respond to voltage a bit faster or slower than the next with different resolution in the motors. That is why we need to "characterize" each and every lens to try and all bring them to a common feel.

Ah, but Peter, you forget the Birger! That was the real fun on the Red 1. And alas, they never got to Nikon. At any rate, it's all good, but I'm glad another "scam" is coming down the pike. Sign me up for testing in Ethoipia.

Jarred, if all goes well in beta testing and lens characterization, can we expect the mount to be released by summer?... by Autumn? not winter, because that would mean something was wrong.
